Media Test Failure, Hardware Problem?

The notebook is displaying the following message:
PXE-E61: Media Test failure, check cablePXE-MOF:
Exiting PXE ROM
Operating System not found.

Power the notebook on, and immediately begin tapping F2. This will go into the notebook BIOS. In the BIOS use the arrow keys to select the Boot Menu. In the Boot Menu will be "Boot Priority Order" and below that will be a list of devices. The first in the list should be "IDE 0". If "IDE 0" is not the first, use the arrow keys to highlight "IDE 0" Use the designated keys to move "IDE 0" to the top. Press the F10 key and press the enter key to save and reboot the computer. If the error persists, there may be a hardware issue.

I tried all of this and the error still persists what else do i need to do?

Reset your BIOS settings to default, to do this go into BIOS screen and choose return to default settings.

What you are describing is a hard drive issue, remove hardware and reseat it back in place sometimes this will restart the hard drive. If this fails have it tested.

Toshiba satellite L455D-S5976 PXE-E61 media test failure...brand new hard drive What do I do???

You need to boot from an installation CD for the operating system, or the Toshiba restore set. New hard drives are completely blank when you purchase them. The computer is looking for something to boot from and cant find it, so it trys to boot from ethernet. Check your bios set up for boot order and boot devices. You might try disabling boot from network.

Hope this helps

HI there,
The "Error" texts saying:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Are completely normal. This simply states that there is no external cables plugged into the specialty inputs on your toshiba laptop.

The "operating system not found" is stating that your existing hard drive is either A) dead or B) been erased.

Try to re-install your operating system, if it finds no hard drive, you'll need a new one!
