Question about Compaq Evo N610C Notebook

Compaq N610c is going crazy, need Help!

I have sold a compaq n610c that i installed myself, to a Friend but a few Days later he comes back with it telling me that the Battery doesn't charge.
I take it home with me and i found out that when i switch ON the Laptop it tells me "No booting Drive found" or something similar after doind once "CTRL - ALT - DEL" it then Boots corecctly into Windows. This was the first weird thing i discovered.
Once in Windows i went to look if the Battery was charging or if it was even being recognized by the System and the scond weird thing happened, the System was Blinking that small blue Ray of light over the Battery symbol that shows that it is loading the Battery plus every time the ray of light showed up while blinking a small text appeared saying "0%  [Loading]" and i could read there: "Source of Energy: Alternate"! Shouldnt the Battery receive "continuous" Electricity instead of "alternate"??
I then tried to change the original charger with a Universal charger to see if the problem persisted and yes it did, the Universal charger didn't change anything.
The third weird thing the Laptop is doing is, that everytime i boot up or reboot the computer, the Date and Time in Windows sets back to 1980 and Windows Warns me of that fact. Why in Hell is this Laptop doing this weird things? When i gave it to my Friend it was Working flawlessly and 2 Days later it does all this weird things.
Do you have any Idea what could have happened? And how do i resolve this issues? I had Flashed the Bios with the newest one from HP while installing the system and now i flashed back to the older Bios it had before but that didnt made a difference either, i was thinking the small Bios Battery could be Dead but that dont explain some of the weird things that are happening to this Notebook.
Any Help would be very welcome and appreciated, Thank you!

The ''alternate''should mean the source (than battery)not the current.Go to control panel check the settings on power options and change the small bios baterry(as you thought) If the problem continious change and the normal battery or check it with no battery on

Problem compaq Evo notebook N610c

The bluetooth driver for your laptop (and all other drivers for it) can be downloaded [HERE].

The name of the driver is "Support Software for Windows XP for Bluetooth MultiPort Module by Compaq" and can be found under the #driver - network" tab.

When you say Adobe pdf I assume you mean the PDF Reader?
Just go to and download it by clicking on d17a8b9.png

Compaq Evo N610C Faint Screen

Usually it's the inverter. Sometimes it's the backlight / lcd, and occasionally it's the lcd cable and or video card.

Easiest thing to do is order a replacement inverter from ebay. They're cheap and then swap it. You just need to remove the outside lcd bezel, it's just four or five screws and you're in business.

Can I install 1gb of ram on a compaq evo n610c

Yes, Memory Upgrade for Compaq Evo N610C, the Compaq Evo N610C takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs to a max of 1gig - and two 512 would be perfect.

The memory modules in a Compaq Evo N610C are not located where you expect them to be.
Here's how to do it.
Open the notebook, and place your fingers on the keyboard as if you were going to type. There is a panel directly beneath your left palm, just below the Ctrl and Alt keys. The panel is hooked into the front of the frame closest to you. Using a thin flathead screwdriver or knife blade, apply a bit of pressure on the panel so that you're pushing it towards the LCD while prying it up. The panel will come right off and you'll have direct access to the memory modules.

So you have to install 512mb memory module on each slot to make up 1024mb of memory.

Did you install 512mb memory module on each slot or did you just install 1GB memory module in one slot?

Try to go back to 256mb RAM and see if you will have the same blue screen error. If you did not receive any blue screen, try to add memory into it or just insert 512mb first and then oserve again if you will have the blue screen error.
