SEER (

The SEER rating is the Btu of cooling output during a typical cooling-season divided by the total electric energy input in watt-hours during the same period. SEER is related to the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), which is the ratio of output cooling in Btu/Hr and the input power in watts W at a given operating point and also to the coefficient of performance (COP) commonly used in thermodynamics. SEER rating more accurately reflects overall system efficiency on a seasonal basis and EER reflects the system’s energy efficiency at peak day operations. The higher the SEER number, the greater the efficiency of your unit. Therefore you will realize greater energy savings. The higher efficiency your product, the lower your long-term energy costs will be. Both central AC and air source heat pumps are rated according to seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER).

Before you consider upgrading your cooling equipment, the cheapest way to save money and energy from cooling is to reduce the need for

I found this I hope it helps.

If the unit does not have the horsepower rating, but has the AMP rating, try this formula found in Answers.com

"Amps are a factor in calculating power, and so can be used to determine horsepower, but only when other factors are present.

Given other factors, you can find the horsepower. The easiest way is to determine watts by multiplying amps X volts. Next multiply watts by .00134 and you have horsepower.

If: amps (A)= 20 and volts (V)=120 then

A X V =2400 watts (W)

2400 watts X .00134 = 3.216 horsepower"

Hope this helps you???

10.5 EER

Jul 01, 2011 | Ruud UAMB Air Conditioner

on the model # plate it will have the serial # also what type freon is used in it, and it will have the amperage or amps. when normally working for example let's say is 3.5 amps, this will need to be converted to watts and you can google for that formula to convert amps to watts.

Divide the cooling capacity by the total watts. example 10,000 btu's divided by total watts ( voltage times current)

10000/(120 volts X 7.0 amps)

10000/840=11.9 eer

10000/(120 volts X 7.0 amps)

10000/840=11.9 eer

It depends on the (EER) Energy Efficiency Ratio, which is capacity divided by watts.

Example 35000 btus / 2500 watts = 14 EER

If you know the capacity, btus and EER you can calculate the watts, capacity / EER

Example 35000 btus / 14 EER = 2500 watts.

EER is determine by testing the air conditioner at Department of Energy Guidelines, which are

80° drybulb 67° wetbulb indoor and 95° and 82° drybulb outdoor.

Example 35000 btus / 2500 watts = 14 EER

If you know the capacity, btus and EER you can calculate the watts, capacity / EER

Example 35000 btus / 14 EER = 2500 watts.
