How difficult is it to replace the compressor on a 1998 mercury sable? I'd like to do it myself and get it recharged at a shop.

I would not recommend DIY on compressor replacement because you would need to recycle the refrigerant that is still in the system, and for that service shops have a machine that collects and recycles refrigerant. A new compressor alone will not come precharged ,it would have to be charged connected to the unit.

I hope this helps.

Need to recharge my ac how to hook up the recharge can to it

This job requires special tools and special training. If you lack either, you risk SERIOUS personal injury. Injury comes VERY EASILY!

You need to address oil levels, proper and legal refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, and recharge.

You were planning to also replace the receiver/dryer, correct? It also needs the oil in it measured and incorporated into the amount of oil (in %) that would need to be added. FAILURE to address these and other issues will guarantee premature system failure and likely compressor damage.

Take this job to a qualified shop.

A/C Fan on a 1998 Mercury sable won't come on

It could be low freon and your compressor clutch is not engaging. Have someone turn on the AC while you look at the pulley at the compressor. Low pressure will cause it to "try" to engage or click and then shut down. AC is a "danger" item in self help manuals.

AC blows hot air but AC compressor works

if the compressor works and your freon is charged it may be the blower flapper door....disconnect battery for 10 minutes and then re-connect to reset the electronics that control the flapper

My ac on the 1998 mercury sable dont work i put a fuse in it that was blown but that didnt fix the problem im not getting anything when i turn the nobs on

Well there could be a problem with the switch itself or the system could be so low on Freon that it won't let the compressor kick on. Could be something wrong with compressor itself.

Air leak

You can replace the section of line but you should really have the dealer or a third party A/C shop do it for you as they can evap the lines (there must be a vacum) and then add the R134a with some oil etc. Expect it to cost ~250$ or more.

Where is the air conditioner compressor relay located on a 97 mercury sable

The relay for the air conditioner compressor is located in a black box on the radiator support. this is a multi-function relay box and is sealed. This box has a large bundle of wires plugged into it. This controls the fuel pump, A/C compressor, and cooling fans. Unfortunately, the whole thing will have to be replaced which will cost around 100 dollars unless you can find one in a salvage or junk yard.

Air conditioning vents

you have a servo motor that operates the blend air doors in your dash. this is probably the reason . you have to take it to a shop for them to replace it. disassembly of the dash without breaking it is difficult with out the right tools. please rate this solution thanks.
