I have a similar problem using the Canon Drivers - after a month or two of using the official drivers I became unable to use some of the more advanced options - they where still there but wouldn't work properly.

I eventually started using a software called VueScan (Google For It) - and this solved all of my problems, although it is a little more complicated to use, it is a far superior scanning software.

Also make sure you re not trying to save in a color depth that the file format does not support - Eg : Scanning in 48Bit color and saving to a Jpeg

Scanning 110 negative film

I just finished scanning many 110 film strips. You need to lay the strip along the inside edge of slot A and scan in normal preview mode. On the preview strip, put a marquee around each individual photo and scan each one separately. Worked fine for me.

Stripline on my scanned images from Minolta 5400 II film scanner

If some particles of dust stick to the scanning module, then while scanning they appear like lines. Clean the scan module thoroughly using Isopropyl alcohol IPA-Industrial grade is enough, dont use any solvent. You can use your aftershave (!) once or twice. Ensure that the film strips are not sticky.

Paper not loading, sericr eror message 5100

Dear kamal,

Error code 5100 also come with LED alarm flashes in Orange/Green 2 times. This error happens when carriage part (carriage unit) is faulty so that carriage part cannot read film encoder properly. As a result, carriage part move on uncontrolled. But,in some cases, dirty film timing **** strip (Horizontal film encoder;available only in i series and above) may cause the same symptom. Try to clean film encoder by wiping it with moistened clothe first.

Remedial action:
  • Replace carriage part
  • Clean/replace film timing **** strip
