GE Microwave JES1142SPSS emitted a high-pitchen tone and wouldn't shut off. Only 0000 registered on display. Finally took of screws to back and pulled out white plug.

My unit was wired into the wall at back of cabinet for a lower depth profile. Couldn't find fuse to turn it off.

SOURCE: GE Profile Advantium Wall Oven 240 volts 950 Watts

How long does it run before it fails? Does it look like the display is getting scrambled characters? I'm leaning toward a bad magnetron, but it may be more or less than that. If you can give more details and especially the actual full model number (as opposed to the model name Advantium 120) that would help. Thanks!

The type of screw attaching the casing is called a Torx Tamper Proof screw. You need a Torx Tamper Proof Screwdriver to remove the screws. These screws and screwdrivers come in various sizes. I think the size you need is T20H.

SOURCE: NEED TO REMOVE WALL MOUNTED GE JVM1190BY002 MICROWAVE

I also have a JVM1190 and was baffled as to removal. My very handy brother solved it in two minutes. Above the door and keypad there is a long grill secured by two small squarehead (Robertson) screws. Remove the screws and grill and you will see on either side of the opening a long bolt. They go through to the back of the microwave where the support plate attached to the wall. The bolts have a slot in the middle for a flat blade screwdriver. Simply turn the bolt to release from the back plate. Make sure there is a helper underneath as the microwave is fairly heavy. Do the reverse for re-installation.

SOURCE: How do I remove an old wall mounted Microwave.

I just removed mine this morning and was having the same problem, though mine did have the screws above going into the unit. You may have to pop the front vent cover off to locate the screws going to the wall bracket, if so remove those. Also, there are 2 tabs on the bottom of the wall bracket that the back bottom edge of the microwave slip into, keeping the microwave from being pulled forward. Tilt the microwave slightly forward and push the bottom back edge of the microwave up to clear the tabs. Hope this helps.

Why can't you run a microwave without anything in it? What happens and can you fix the problem? I forgot to put the food in and ran it for 4 minutes with nothing inside. Now it won't heat any food.

A microwave oven works on the principal of a high power high frequency radio transmitter. The device that emits the microwave energy is a tube called a magnetron . When you run the microwave empty with nothing to absorb the microwave energy it is all reflected back to the magnetron causing it to overheat and destroy itself or cause failure in the High Voltage power supply due to excessive current draw. This is caused by standing waves.

How do you stop, reset or change the remaining time on the Timer on the GE JES1142 microwave? Pressing Clear/Off does nothing. Do you just have to wait for the timer to run out? Manuel is wrong even on how...

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

I gather from the info that I have read that my GE Monogram microwave diode has gone out. Growling noise, etc. I'm a do it yourself kind of gal. Can I replace that myself?

The voltages in the microwave oven are lethal, there are three common problems, Magnetron, High Voltage diode, or the high voltage capacitor. I highly recommend a professional for sakety sake.

How do I get to the fuse for replacement?

remove panel that's over the door (screws on top). next, remove control panel by unscrewing usually 1 screw on top of panel. finally, lift panel upward; then pull foward. of course, unplug power cord before disassembly. fuse should be 20amp 3ab20 ceramic snap-in fuse and is located inside up high near cooling fan. fuse can be obtained at radio shack. keep in mind fuses fail for a reason.

How to change the bulb in a jes1288sh02 ge microwave oven

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

See these links before proceeding:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

You can find an exploded view showing the the lamp assembly (location refer# 280) here.

You can order the lamp assembly by entering your full model number here. It is part # WB36X951.

1985 GE Microwave Spacesaver Uninstall

A possible solution:
I was facing the same problem with my (1998?) GE JVM48006. In this models case, the microwave was housed in a support cabinet that was fastened to the wall behind. First, I removed the phillips head screws behind the louvered vent above the microwave. Then, I removed the screws of the slanted bottom panel that give access to servicing the stove top lights (underneath the unit) which were integrated into the support cabinet (separate from the microwave itself). On the right side was an electrical wire harness hidden behind a cover that had to be unplugged (similar to a car wiring harness). Then, I removed (4) 5.1/2 inch hex head bolts that secured the unit through the cabinet above. Now I was able to slide the microwave out towards the front (with some rocking back and forth). All that was left then was to remove the support housing (fastened to the back wall).
