    Hi,

you formated drive c and now there are letters and numbers flashing through the screen?

When you reboot, have you some kind of startup cd or dvd (windows installation, Windows PE and so on) in your optical drive?

Or have you installed your operating system on another drive?

If you may have de-fragged the hard drive recently and compressed the executable file for Windows. You can load into your windows back up ur file and reformat with a fresh load of the OS. You can as well try a Windows repair using your restore disk.

Hope this helps

How to reformat back to windows vista ?

You need a windows Vista disc. Insert the disc and follow the prompts. I would format the hard drive instead of upgrading do a new install. The best way would be to go into your bios and make sure the boot device order has the cd-rom booting before the hard drive. Then put the disc in and start the computer, when it says press any key to boot from cd hit any key and let it load and then follow the prompts to install.

I recently reformatted my computer with windows xp and after everything was done I rebooted my computer but it always gets stuck on the HP screen where I can press ESC to go to boot menu and F8 for...

I am assuming you have already backed up all of your data before doing this. But, it probably hit a bad sector on the drive. To get around this just insert the CD again and boot from the CD. When prompted on the screen, you will want to delete your partitions and do one large partition. That should help.

No windows xp

You will have to reformat it again. its likely a bad sector has been created on the hard disk, and windows file is probably occupying the bad sector. Try to reformat your hard drive. If that doesn't work, try to reformat it with windows 98 bootable disk. If it doesn't work, get another hard drive and test to see if it will work. If that works, then know you may have lost the MBR (Master boot Record) of your hard drive.

My computer wont boot up. I try to send it to safe mode but all I get is start-up repair and then it tells me it can't fix the problem. Any Ideas?

you need to repair you OS. You can do it by booting up with your Windows CD.

then "set up windows xp"

press F8

then at the drive selection " where your windows xp is installed" Press "R"

don't worry it won't reformat your drive, its going to repair the damage it has.

Desktop doesnt boot.

If you have a windows XP recovery CD, try running that at boot.

also, try pressing the f8 key to boot windows in safe mode.

it sounds like a corrupted OS install: if you can't recover, you may have to reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows.
