What type of field office? Is it a dirty location. It could easily be really dirty optics, if that's the case. Otherwise, it is the drum unit failing.
Either way, you'll, have to get some service done.
The drum unit can be easily (carefully) removed by you and if the surface of the drum is covered in a haze of toner, then that is your problem.
This needs to be replaced by a tech, because there are a variety of calibrations that need to be performed after replacement

Hello,
if the image have smeared or "unbaked" toner leftovers it means that you need to change fixing film.

Hope that helps!

Printed pages are smeared with black

Sounds like a bad toner, or possibly the scanner is dirty. If you look where it pulls the paper through it can have a small speck, but since its on the scanner tself it will put black lines all the way down the paper.
If its larger and smeared the Toner itself is probably bad and you need a new Toner Kit, should come with new rollers and a new cartridge as well.

RICOH 1224C COPIES ARE SMEARED

Smeared output can also result when you refeed a printed page into the printer to make a double-sided page. This happens because the rubber rollers that grip the paper to pull it into the printer can pick up toner from the first side’s printing and smear it. So before replacing this is an easy thing to check. Printing multiple pages consecutively will make the pages print progressively cleaner.

Smeared toner also happens because the nonstick coating on the fusing roller is scratched or has baked-on debris. This can happen if the printer is in a dirty environment especially. If you are comfortable removing the fuser, you can try to clean it with a soft cloth and alcohol, but make sure you let it cool down first!

If this does not resolve your issue then make sure the fuser is heating; if not, the thermostat is bad and you will most likely need to replace the entire fuser assembly. This will be pretty expensive to repair so hopefully it's one of those other issues.

When documents print out, one side of the copy is smeared. We cleared out a paper jam and I think part of the lining of the roller came off.

Finally, if this does not resolve your issue then make sure the fuser is heating; toner that is not heated properly will fall from the page and smear. Smeared print on paper

I was getting a similar blur/blob down one side of the paper (with no discernable print anywhere,) but after removing and emptying the toner collection bottle my printing returned to normal. I am still working on the size mismatch issue, which seems to be prevalent in the 2300DL population.

The copies are coming out smeared and with lines. I wiped the (drum?) off?

What did you wipe the drum off with???? That is why you have this problem. You may want to try recleaning the opc with a dry soft rag, also you may want to clean the drum blade... If that dose not solve your problem, you may need to replace the opc & blade... Have you tried to stop the copy before it gets to the fuser unit.. If so, are the marks there???

Print jobs smeared

Hi Are you using OEM or rebuilt toners? If your using OEM and your able to smear the ink with your finger more than likely you have a fuser problem?. If your using rebuilt cartridges it could be the cartridge. Good Luck!!
