I have a Kohler Ingenium toilet whose flush is insufficient. Not enough force is generated to remove waste from the bowl, the bowl fills up too high and runs after the bowl has been refilled.

THERE ARE LOTS OF SMALL HOLES WHERE THE WATER COMES OUT OF IN THE RIM OF THE TOILET BOWL, SOME TIMES HARD WATER BLOCKES THES AND THEY NEED TO BE CLEANED. THEY CAN BE CLEANED USING A LARGE SEWING NEEDLE, PUSHING IT INTO THE HOLE UNTIL IT FEELS A BIT BIGGER, YOU WON'T DO DAMAGE AS IT IS VERY HARD METERIAL. a AFTERWARDS TURN OFF THE WATER, AND LIFT THE VALVE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK AND PUT SOME TOILET ACID INTO IT. THIS WILL ALSO HELP CLEAN THE HOLES.
Tank needs more water and the flapper has to stay open longer by adjusting chain so the flapper goes up higher when you flush the unit. Practice and you will get it right.
Yes. If it still leaks after replacing the flapper then you may need to replace the entire flush valve but that is very rare. Fluid master in my opinion makes the best most reliable replacement flappers or you can go with the OEM parts.
What kind of flush valve is it? kohler.com shows a couple of different towers with their ingenium toilets. Is it a Kohler item or is it a Fluidmaster? Usually you adjust water height by turning a threaded rod that runs up and down. See page 5 of this pdf
Something is leaking. Your description sounds like tank water is slowly leaking and then the tank refills. You really need to use Kohler brand parts, as others pieces seem to not work well.
Make sure the flapper is holding water in tank. if it is leaking, then when you go to flush there is not enough of water to flush. to check for leaking flapper, take a pack of kool-aid and dump it into tank of toilet. dont flush toilet. let set for 10-15 mins. if the flapper is leaking, the color of kool-aid will show up in bowl. hope this helps.
Sounds like your flapper is leaking causing the water in the tank to lower until it triggers the fill valve. Replace the flapper (they're cheap and wear out easily).
Make a small mark with a pencil or marker that can be erased of were your water line is in your bowl. Pour some water from a bucket into the bowl SLOWLY and see if the water line rises or drops back down to your original mark. If it drop back to the original mark, then that is the way the toilet was made. You won't be able to do anything about it. If it rises and stays at a higher level, then you have a problem with the fill tube in the tank. You will need to call a Pro!
