I am not getting no sound in my earphone look like need setting?
SOURCE: how to install win xp in toshiba portage r200 laptop
This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive)...as the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.

First ensure that the headphones are working, by testing them on a divverent devices.
Ensure that computer has sound from speakers, if computer has not sound at all , then you need to reinstall audio drivers.
Then restart the computer with earphone plugged in, this solves a bios control related problem.
If still no luck, than you may have a broken solder joint on the Jack socket, in that case the repair must be done by a technician.

Check when you plug in the headphone the laptop speakers get off or not also see the audio configuration under control panel sound that you choose digital sound or its having channels system like 5.1 or 7.1 channels you have to configure it to headphone
SOURCE: need a toshiba portege R500 vista recovery disk
Toshiba Factory Reset
a couple of ways to do that
1) if you have the recovery CDs supplied with the PC - then you can use these - put the CD into the drive and when it boots follow the instructions
2) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=recovery+to+factory
3) This link shows you how to use the partition
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2291088&pf=true
basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears
choose "repair your computer"
If that option is NOT available then you will need to Order CDs from Toshiba -

SOURCE: where is a shorty jumper in Portage 4010
Hi smtega. There's not a jumper. Try this. Unplug the power adapter. and (assuming you know how to open the laptop) - just remove the BIOS battery inside (something like a battery for a watch, sometimes it has a sleeve or a little casing. Wait a minute or so, and then try again. If that doenst work just wait longer and then try it. I hope this helps and please dont forget to rate and provide positive
