Re: portege 3500 shuts down

If it's going into thermal shutdown, this is an easy fix if you're comfortable with taking your laptop apart. What has happened is the thermal grease in between the cpu and the heatsink has dried out, and is not conducting the cpu's heat properly. The machine is shutting down to protect itself. My best advice is go to any computer store, and get a tube of thermal paste, and find the disassembly instructions online. Clean both surfaces (the heatsink and cpu) with rubbing alcohol. Re-apply a thin layer of new thermal grease, and reassemble. Be sure to clean the crud out of the heatsink while you have it out.

Re: portege 3500 shuts down

Its difficult to identify the problem but there two things that might cause this...first, virus, your laptop may have been infected with a virus e.g. brontok....try restarting your laptop and boot on safemode. if it works there then a virus is causing the issue. you just need a scan and delete it with an anti-virus. second. you are having a problem with you fan/processor. this would be the time to go to the nearest PC repair shop.

Toshiba Portege R500 hangs when starting up.I have to shut it down again and then start it up for it to work properly. It has windows 7 installed in it

Perhaps you need to disable some of your startup programs. You have ugraded to Win 7? Has this been happening due to the Win 7 upgrade? In Device Manager are ALL the devices working? No unknown devices? Any graphic driver issues?

Booting up issue

Does it do this with the mains charger connected or only on battery power?

The plugging in the mains charger if not already, wait a couple of minutes and then try switching it on.

If the boots up fine you more than likely have a battery problem.

If it still doesn't start then you either have a power supply problem on the laptop itself or your main charger is faulty and not charging the battery.

You can also remove the battery and try booting it with only the mains charger connect.

How do i bypass the password for the bios

There is only 1 way and that is tearing the laptop down to get to the bios battery. Unseat the battery for about 2 minutes this should set the bios back to factory settings without a password. Good luck dont break anything getting there.

HP Pavillon dv62030ez No more start up. Fan and lights get power for a second, then nothing. Think thr BGA doesn't fit any more, due to overheating.

This may be a problem with the bios. Try to reset the bios. follow the below procedure

1. remove the main battery
2. remove any USB cables etc., if connected
3. hold the power button for 15 secs.
4. reconnect the power adapter (Do not install the battery yet)

Later if the system starts well then shut down the Laptop and install back the battery and connect the charger and start the Laptop again

If the above will not solve the problem then follow the next step

1. Remove the power adapter and the battery
2. Open the back side cover where the Memory is installed.
3. remove the BIOS battery
4. leave the laptop for a while may be 10 mins.
5. Now connect the BIOS battery back
6. System will automatically start do not press the power button
7. set the date and time
8. Shut down the Laptop
9. Start normally back on.

Dell Vostro 3500 suddenly shut down, start up and works fine, after 2 minutes turn off without any warning message this happened after i installed bios upgrade A10 from

this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.

basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.

my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.

I installed a new battery and its not lasting for the time remaing. what should my battery be set on normal full power high power saver power

Toshiba usually has a power configuration utility for this... when on battery, reduce your inactive time values to the minimum... suggested ...screen off in 1-2 minutes and harddrive should shut down in 2-5 minutes. system standby in 15 minutes, hibernate in 1 hour.

Portege 7200CTe battery life short

I don't know for sure if this is your problem, but I do know that laptop batteries normally have a certain number of full charges before they tend to stop working well. I have seen your problem happen to several different laptops. One way to check this would be buy a new battery for it. If it works fine with that, the problem was the battery and you now have a replacement. If it isn't, however, you have spent the money on the battery and it hasn't done anything. So, that is up to you. That's the only thing I know of, tho. Or if you know someone else with the same laptop, try putting their battery in. Like I said, I don't know for sure if this is the issue, but I have seen it happen to several laptops and a new battery usually fixed it or at least figured out what the problem was. I don't know any way to figure out if that's your problem without buying the battery first, but there might be a way.

Shut down suddenly

Do you get any error-beeps of any kind? Like the battery is going empty? Or does it just go off suddenly? If the first is the case, your power connector in the computer or perhaps the powersupply could be broken. It could sound like your battery doesn't get charged and your computer isn't getting power. Then it will shut down. See if the power/charge indicator is on when connected to the power grid.

If it blacks out suddenly it's probably a more severe problem, but you might try to reinstall the OS (I'm guessing windows), but only as a last resort.
