Question about Walter Drake Garden Groom

Open Question

I am trying to replace 30cm cutting blade on a Garden Groom maxi GG01. However the pozidrive heads are worn down. There is access to the nuts on the other side of the blade but extremely difficult to get at, has anybody else managed to negotiate this problem? Stephen J Johnson, Mirfield, W. Yorks

Cant get blades to full RPM replaced all idlers all belts greased spindles new elec. clutch new blades when cutting grass it leave rows of uncut grass

if the blades wont get up to speed or not cutting grass you have a belt that is slipping. could be the pulley is damaged or just a worn out belt. if it is leaving a strip of uncut grass you have a blade that is wore down on the ends not cutting the full path

How do I fix a loose blade.

By loose blade I assume you mean that it can be moved up and down at the tip of the blade. It is most unlikely that the central nut has come loose, but check anyway. If this nut is tight and the shaft is loose in the bearing this means the bearing has worn out. Remove the deck from the machine. Photograph the run of the belt as this has to be removed. Also the direction of the grease nipple. Remove pulley from loose spindle. Turn deck on its edge or mount on two saw horses or similar so you can get to top and bottom of spindle bolts. Remove cutting blade. Remove spindle housing and clean area so no rubbish gets caught when reassembling. Otherwise spindle may be set different and mower will leave a line of differing cut. Take spindle to vise and remove any retaining nuts or circlips from shaft and clean as clean as new. Apply light oil or CRC etc to help move bearing along shaft. Open vise wider that outside of bearing, usually 44 to 50mm [1 3/4" to 2"] and refit nut on thread. Check nut is always spaced free of top bearing. With cushion of hardwood or nylon tap the shaft to move it down with lower bearing coming out of spindle housing. To remove top bearing from housing, turn housing up other way and use a wooden shaft such as a broom handle to tap bearing free of housing. Clean out grease and replace when reassembling. Do not reuse other bearing. They are cheap and likely to fail shortly anyway. These bearings usually have no seals on inside.

LT2000 craftman mower bolt and nut that tightens blades keep coming loose

Get some red lock tight and put it on the spindle shaft threads. Sounds like the threads are worn down and just won't hold the spindle nut tight any longer.

Husqvarna un even cut

Replace the blades sounds like the ends are worn down or your blades are bent then you would see a difference in hight of cut.

I dont believe there is a shear pin on your blade spindles, what I have found on these machines is the the spindle nuts on the balde spindles sometimes loosen or wear and no longer squeeze the pulley on the blade spindle. To make this process easy on your self you need to tighten these with a impact wrench. However if you dont have access to a impact wrench you can use hand tools and block the blades you are trying to tighten with a wooden block. Just make sure you block the blade you are trying to tighten

Airens Zoom 1944 ZTR Blades Slow Down In Bahaia Grass

You mention many PM issues but do not mention a blade sharpening. I don't get on my ZTR without a freshly honed blade installed. "That's" what cuts bahia grass...the blade. You can put all the horsepower you want behind the lade but if you're trying to cut grass with a 2X4 it rips more than cuts grass.

Blade won't cut

Try replacing the Drive Lever which is located at the end of the clipper and goes from side to side, simply undo the two screws on the name plate/ gearbox cover and remove then pull the lever out. This is the most likely cause if you experiance the same problem with all blades.
