Problem for LG Super Blu? BH200 Blu-ray and HD-DVD Player
My LG BH200 DVD player
My LG BH200 DVD player will not finish software update using LG update supplied disc. I always get "SW Fail 196" just before it finishes the update. I have another BH200 that the update disc worked OK

- The update disc is not the problem. I downloaded and burned an update from the LG website and it also did the same thing. As I mentioned the update disc from LG updated my oither LG BH200 with no problem. It is only this one player that has an update issue.Jun 17, 2009
- I have contacted LG and after about 5 efforts to get someone to tell me what the error code meant I gave up. I have thought about getting a lens cleaner and try that but have not got one yet.Jun 17, 2009
- It is the right update disc--got it from LG. It has " LG BH200 Firmware Update Dec. 2008 Update " on the label. Will try the lens cleaner and see what happens. Thanks for your help.Jun 19, 2009
- Got a lens cleaner and ran it 3 times. Also, physically cleaned the update disc. There was no change. Found out that there was a newer update disc dated 3-4-09. Downloaded it and burned a disc. Tried it and got a new error code very quickly( " SW Fail 185"). Not sure what to do next.Jun 19, 2009
- LG never gave an answer to what the error code was. They said they would forward the problem on to their technician that was the specialist on the BH 200. Never heard back from him. Their next response was that they would send another update disc which they didn't. All together the interaction with LG Support was very disappointing.The player has performed excellently on both the HD and Blu Ray formats with no problems until none of the recently released Blu Ray discs would not play (display would say update needed to play this disc).

Did you contact LG about the error message? try cleaning the lens on the dvd player with a dvd lens cleaning disc.

- Could be a dirty lens and its not reading the disc properly, other than that. I don't know. Its the right upgrade for this model right? so it should work.Jun 17, 2009

- well sorry to disapoint you again but lg only knows what those cryptic messages mean. they aren't documented publicly, the techs at lg should know what the code means. Try contacting LG again, I will do the same from my end.Jun 19, 2009
