What are the formulas in grading the grades uisng microsoft excel

Formulas are used to specify calculations based on values in designated cells. Excel supports basic calculations as well as statistical, trigonometric and other specialized functions.

Formulas used in Excel must follow a certain syntax.

  1. All formulas begin with an equals sign (=).
  2. Some formulas use operands such as +,-, *,/ for addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
For example, the formula =A1+A2+A3 would add the contents of cells A1, A2 and A3.
  3. Other formulas refer to different functions such as SUM, AVERAGE and others.
For example, the formula =SUM(A1:A3) would add the contents for the range A1 through A3.
  4. Formulas can be combined with operands.
For example, the formula =10*SUM(A1:A3) would add the contents cells A1 through A3 and multiply them by 10.
  5. Functions can be nested within each other.
For example, the formula =SQRT(10*SUM(A1:A3)) would take the square root of ten times the sum of cells A1 through A3. When functions are nested, it is important that the number of left parentheses match the number of right parentheses.

CAN GET COLUMNS TO ADD UP AND GIVE TOTAL ONLY GET SUBTOTALS

Use the function =sum() to add numbers. To sum, for example, all of column A, enter in the formula bar =sum($A:$A). You can use the subtotal function within the range you are adding and the answer will not count towards the final total.

Sum function

Write down the number in cells for Example:

A1 (59)   Without Brackets
A2 (50)
A3 (80)
A5  ?    ANY Number
A6  ?    ANY Number
A7  ?    ANY Number

A8 =SUM(A1:A7)     you will get total sum of above numbers on                                   this A8 Cell which is auto sum whenever you                                 change the value on above cell.

Sumproduct or conditional sumif with multiple criteria in vba code...

i'll just reply to your conditional sumif query.

yes, you can do multiple criteria query but with a matrix formula. you may look it up. nonetheless, here is how one would look like:

{=sum(if(range1=A x range2=B x range3=C, sum range))} note that x (multiplication) is used to denote intersection of the criteria

initially, you'll enter it as:
=sum(if(range1=A x range2=B x range3=C, sum range))

then, edit the cell (F2) and press ctrl+shift+enter for the brackets { } to appear.

Microsoft works

First check the formatting of the cells, then check under file-preferences to see what works is programmed to do, if this gives no clue, you could easily create a copy to experiment on and on the copy, highlight the entire sheet, and clear all functions and formats, then experiment with your calculation, if it performs ok, you will know that there was something else going on in the original cells. Finally, instead of the auto-sum function you could manually put in the sum formula eg D2=sum ( A34:A57)
If all this fails, post back and we'll dig further......good luck

Excel and the AVERAGE function

Here is one way:

In this example, my numbers are in cells a1 through a4. My average is computed with the formula:

=SUM(A1:A4)/COUNTIF(A1:A4,"<>0")

I'm summing the range of numbers and dividing that by the count of nonzero numbers. With this formula, you'll get an error if there are no nonzero numbers.

Using if and then to add values to a cell

Try using the SUMIF function for one condition or multiple conditions. Use the SUMIF worksheet function to create a total value for one range based on a value in another range. For example, for every cell in the rage B5:B25 that contains the value "Northwind", the following formula calculates the total for the corresponding cells in the range F5:F25. Formula:
=sumif(B5:B25,"Northwind",F5:F25)

Here are SUMIF functions for multiple conditions.

=sum(if((B5:B25="Northwind")*(C5:C25="Western"),F5:F25))

=sum(if((B5:B25="Northwind")+(C5:C25="Western"),F5:F25))

=sum(if(B5:B25="Northwind",IF(C5:C25="Western"),1,0)))

Also check your help for SUMIF functions.

If this helps you, Please rate me. Thanks, Patty
