Question about Acer Aspire 7110-2069 Notebook

I cannot access my desktop

When i boot my laptop acer aspire 4710
it will ask for log in.
but when i click the log in it does not show my desktop icon instead only black screen. but my mouse cursor is alive.
when i press ctrl alt del. i can access the task manager and can open any programs and application..
what solution should i do.
please help me about this matter!!

As you can see the cursor and also the task manager, I would recommend you to check if there are any programs running in the Applications tab of Task Manager.

If you find any application running, select that application and click on End Task.

If there are no applications running in Task Manager, we will have to check with Processes tab.

Click on Processes tab and if you find any unknow process that is not windows process or system process, select that process and click on End Process to end the process.

The windows processes have the Username as SYSTEM. Even the Local Service or similar other Services needs to be running and should not be ended.

The other process with a different name have to be checked and if you feel that any unknown process is running you can end it.

Also click on Shut down menu in Task Manager and select Restart or Shutdown option and check if your laptop starts normally without the blank screen.

When the unknown process are stopped the system would normally start without the blankscreen.

You normally face this issues when the system does not shutdown properly or due to problem with startup files.

Following the steps mentioned earlier may help you in resolving your issue.

You have a virus and its interfering with explorer.exe. when you start up your computer press F8 startup windows in safe mode with networking and go to start menu and all programs accessory and system tools click on system restore and pick a date before you started notching this problem and click on start restore. if you have any ? call 364-1424

    I'm sorry should have made myself clearer as he said just go to process tab you don't have to end everything just stop explorer.exe thats whats causing your problem. and restart

Try to completely shutdown the computer and then bring it back up/

If you are logged in:
Can you go to the Desktop and right-click on the taskbar, at the bottom. Click on Show Desktop Icons.

Acer Aspire One D250-1042 shows desktop wallpaper but won't load


Start by logging on as the Administrator so you can check the Task Manager and find out what Application or Process is monopolizing the system.

If the system is still unresponsive boot into Safe Mode. (Press F8 before the Windows startup screen appears.) If everything is fine in Safe Mode type MSCONFIG at the Command Prompt and start disabling features until you find the culprit.

Last resort, buy or borrow an external USB CD/DVD drive and use it to reinstall Windows.

Important: Reinstalling will ERASE the hard drive.

If u use vista, try to click right at volume icon at your bottom right screen.choose sound and then choose recording tab...at microphone icon, double click and choose enable at device usage....hope this will help.. = )

No desktop Icons


Troubleshooting first:
  1. does it start? Yes: go to its BIOS and set your CD drive to be the first one to boot. Read the screen menu on what to press to enter BIOS or read manual. No: Check your power supply if it is properly plugged and the battery for it might be loose.
  2. does it display your windows start button? Yes: right click on the display and select arrange icons by: then select "show desktop icons". No: your computer might not have proper boot up. need to restore and follow the above solution.

Blank screen appears on the startup with only cursor on it


The Acer Recovery CDs do not set the Boot flag on the hard drive. I had to manually set the boot flag to on using GPARTED Live. After restarting using the GPARTED CD, you can manage the flags under the partition drop down and click on the Boot flag. After exiting GPARTED, I rebooted the laptop and no more black screen....fixed!!
I hope this helps others.

Laptop not showing desktop just remains blank when switched on


hi mikkk,
try the following.
1. right click on your desktop (blank screen ). go to arrange icons by--> check show desktop icons. this might fix the issue.
2. or in the task manager. go to file--> new task....Run "explorer.exe" ( type it without the inverted comas). this wud fix the issue.
