Question about Car Audio & Video

I have a Fender CyberTwin (Version 1.3) amplifier that is giving me some trouble. The display is sometimes dead and the amp changes channels at will. I opened the amp and tightened some connectors which seemed to need "clicking into place" but this hasn't helped. Can someone help? Robotek?

    Hi

What is it exactly that I have to order from Fender - is it called the "Main Board"? Can I replace it myself?

Thanks for your post, Localwonder - any ideas what this might cost to repair? Any experience with post-repair prognosis? Does this repair last?

Hi,

The cost of repair would be between 500-600 bucks. To be really honest with you, its more than half the price of the new fender cyber twin.

If you are handy and you can work on it, that's different. Usually, it's worth trying. You can call a tech and he would be able to make sure what's the exact problem is. We are not there, so we can only make intelligent guess, what might be an issue.

If that's a motherboard issue, repair it yourself unless keep it in junkyard :(

Call tech and then make sure, what's the exact problem is.

Note - In today's time, specially during recession, it's much better to invest in new and be happy for many years rather than repairing an old one for more than half the amount and still face an issue afterwards. Remember, there are electronic items. Once started to create problem, would create many.

The decision is all your's.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Here is a PDF of how to upgrade your amp.

Itdoes involve changing a ROM chip in the amp, so it is more of ahardware upgrade to get the new firmware into your rig. The upgrade ROMcan be ordered through a Fender dealer closest to you.

Hi, this is mainly heat related. heat is the biggest enemy when it comes to many amplifiers. the Main or (mother board), can become hot during normal operations and, this can destroy certain resistors and capacitors that regulate the DC or AC current that runs through the unit. this particular issue you are experiencing is being caused by a damaged mother board. the control sectors on the board are unstable, in return, causing the erratic changes from channel to channel.

If this unit is Fan cooled, i would make sure the fan is operable. if it is not fan cooled, these are the types that are very vulnerable to heat damage.

The replacement of the main board will need to be preformed by th manufacture of this unit and, you will need to contact this manufacture for a repair ticket. they will instruct you to send it to the proper location for the board transplant.

Unfortunately, this main board is not available for consumer purchase. only the manufacture can preform this repair.

concerning the dead display. this is cuased by weak or broken solder joints.(heat related)

Wayne, There's a time to take the amp to a pro shop andf get it done right. It' saves time and headaches, and also keeps you from inadvertantly smoking other parts or yourself. Now is that time.

Peavey 8.5c amplifier. One channel dead. In

FIrst of all, in bridge mode there is only one channel. The "bridge" means that you combine the two channels together to get a single more powerful amp. The swollen part is probably nothing. Sometimes the plastic caps cup like that. Unless there is a specific problem with the amp, don't worry about it. Try placing the amp into stereo mode and testing each channel. If both work, there is no problem with the amp. If for some reason you need repalcement capactors, contact Peavey directly. They supply replacement parts.

I want to add more speaker at my paspor fender 500

Run out of the stereo output jacks into a separate amplifier and speakers. The amplifier send jack only sends signal from the particular channel it is part of. In other words to get all the signals from all the channels you would need another mixer, amp and speakers. It is easier to use the stereo out which will give you all the signals. If you only use left out or right out make note of where your panpot is set for each channel.

MTX 502 2 chanel amp Pre amp problem?

Unless your amp is 1 (one) ohm stable then you may have fried it. When you attach a 2 ohm load across a bridged amp then you have effectivly placed each output channel on a 1 ohm load. Not a good thing in most cases. Try hooking up ONE speaker on one channel and one input to that one channel one at a time. Then switch the speaker/input to the other channel and see if you can get either or both channels to work independently. Needless to say you must turn the amp off before you make ANY change in the wiring.
