I changed the cartridge, now we can't send faxes

This error occurs when printer fails detecting ink level or printer assume that no ink in the cartridge. We cannot use print, copy,scan, and fax function before the problem fixed. did you try the copy function? just to be sure that the problem is in your machine, not on the sending side.

make a copy to check the operation of the send unit. Somebody may have loaded their fax upside down when sending.

You dont need to have the cartridges in the printer when sending fax but you should have the cartridges installed when you recieve faxes.

it will not send or receive a fax if the error is still there. Clear the error by trying these steps:
-open cartridge door and remove the cartridge
-unplug the power cord at the back of printer
-after 30 seconds, plug the cord and turn on the printer. It will ask for the cartridge.
-Open the cartridge door and insert the cartridge
-close the access door
-if the error is cleared, try faxing again.

Check for bent contact pins that rest against the cartridge.

If you still have your old cartridge reinstall it that will tell you if it is the cartridge or not. If you still have the problem,it could be the encoder.
