Question about Sharp Televison & Video

Cannot turn off close captioning on Sharp HDTV with DVD

We cannot turn off our close captioning. It is so annoying. We are intimidated by this flat screen Sharp with DVD player. This is the third time this has happened. We were able to fix it the other two times but don't know what we did to get it off.

We've tried everything. We go to the Set-up menu and choose "off" for the close captioning and this does nothing.

Can you suggest anything that might help us? We are very frustrated.

You may want to call the Customer Help Line and see if there is a software update for this issue. They could send it to you by mail via a SD CARD.
Hope this helps,

How to turn closed caption off?

If the cc button on your Sharp remote control isn't turning them off then the captions may be coming from your cable box. The hidden menu to access closed captioning on the cable box is usually found by turning it off and then (yes I did say turn the cable box off) then press the menu button on the front of it immediately after turning it off. Then you navigate down to captions and disable them. When you turn the cable box back on the captions should no longer be there.

No Closed Caps With HDMI Cable

The information the closed-caption decoder in the TV needs is not provided over the HDMI cable from your converter box. This means the TV's closed-captioning can't be used. But the cable box should provide closed-captioning, so check its setup menus. Contact your cable provider for more information if it's not obvious from the box setup how to turn captions on.

Do you mean the closed captioning or is it the subtitles when viewing a DVD. If it is the DVD then the subtitles need to be turned off on the DVD player. If it is the closed caption and you have a HD Comcast or other type of cable box, then the CC needs to be turned off on that device.

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

I have a Sharp Aquos 46" and go a Comcast HD receiver as well, and had the same problem turning off the Closed Captioning. I order to turn it off you need to go into the box user setting by (starting w/ the cable box and tv on) pressing the power button for the cable box then the menu button for the cable box. This will open up the user settings menu. Just toggle CLOSED CAPTION to DISABLED.
