Hi, A couple of things to look for. Check the 4" vent going to the outside and make sure there is clean. If that is ok, check to see if the blower duct inside the dryer is clean and make sure the blower wheel is turning properly. This model has a problem with the blower wheel coming loose on te motor shaft.
The flame is large because it is not being sucked past the limit switch.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

My lg gas dryer model no dlg3744w will not heat

There are three high limit thermostats. Check all three for continuity. They should read closed (0 ohms). Check the flame sensor. They're cheap so you could just replace. It needs to close before the first solenoid opens and then open before the second solenoid opens. Again, easier to replace. Check continuity on the solenoid coils. They should read 1.5 K ohms. I replaced two gas valves before I recognized a "new" gas valve might not be really new.

My gas dryer keeps shutting down the heat cycle and I have changed the hot surface ignitor

The gas valve assembly consists of the ignitor, the flame sensor, and the solenoids.
In order for the gas valve assembly to operate, the ignitor must come on, the flame sensor must then shut the ignitor down in order for them solenoids to activates. Them selonoids won't activate untill the ignitor is glowing. Once the ignitor is glowing, it then acts as a thermocouple though the secondary winding on the primary solenoid. As long as you have igniton the ignitor keeps the power to them solenoids on. If fer some reason the gas did not ignite, then after the ignitor cools back down the gas would be shut down and that is your built in safety. So what goes wrong? With a bit of age them solenoids work a little then overheat and quit, making it a very difficult diagnosis. But now you know the secret right?
Swap out them lame solenoids and rock on!

Flame shuts off after a few minutes. filter is clean and exhaust is good.

Could be a bad high limit thermostat. A bad flame sensor or bad gas valve coils.
If you let it cool down and it re-lights correctly, replace the gas valve coils.

Gas maytag dryer not heating up

check the thermal fuse in the dryer vent duct to be open, then if not the flame eye" radiant sensor" or the high-limit thermostat both on the burner tube if the sensor doesn't see(sense) a flame the gas valve will stay shut, then check the gas valve coils, both the BOOST and SECONDARY coil valves on the gas valve body as these can open up and not gas into the burner

GAS Dryer starts and then stops after a minute or less.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Most of the time when the symptom you describe occurs the flame sensor has failed. It does not sense a flame and as a by design fail safe shut off the gas safety valve.

However... if the burner never does light then there is another fail safe in that being an automatic shut off of the dryer when the burner does not light at all on units with electronic timer controls.

A weak gas valve coil can also cause an early shut down. I.e they are powered, open the gas valve but, can't keep it open.

If there is no airflow... i.e the blower fan hub has failed and it is not turning the burner flame will cause the high limit thermostat to trip. After about 5 minutes you would be able to restart the dryer only to have the whole evolution repeat.

You did not mention a make or model number so it is difficult to go into details on exactly what to do to rectify your dryers' shutting down problem.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

When the dryer is cold the heater flame will

The heating circuit is working perfectly except for the solenoid coils as indicated by the occasional glowing of the igniter but no gas is ignited. A gas valve closes as the solenoid coil weakens as it gets hot and does not open until it has cooled down. Replace both gas valve solenoid coils to get the dryer back into proper operation. The solenoid coils are part numbers 694539 and 694540 but also can be purchased as a kit here.

it could be your radiant flame sensor on the burner tube that senses the flame,or it could be bad boost and secondary gas valve coils on the gas valve located inside the unit,a defective high-limit or cycling thermostat on the burner tube, any one or combination of these can cause your symptoms

Flame does not cycle on Gas Dryer

This problem is caused by faulty gas valve coils. These electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the gas valves. It is recommended that if any of the gas valve coils are suspected of fault, that they both (all) be changed at once. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Dryer flame starts for a few min then goes out

When it goes off will it restart immediately or do you need to allow some cool down time?

If cool down time is needed it's likely the coil kit which is part number 279834 for your model.

Other possibilities are air flow too slow causing a "lazy" flame which shuts off due to hitting safety thermostat sitting on top of the flame tunnel.
