Question about Dryers

Motor does not start

Heating element heats up, door light works, but no response of any kind when "start" button is pushed. Start button shows "0" ohmns when depressed. Have replaced the motor.Belt is good, drum rotates. Wall plug shows overheating on one straight terminal, both plug and recepticle. Connections at machine all look ok, no signs of any wires/connections overheating.
Model number doesn't come up on Sears website.

No noise, no response at all with either the original motor or the new replacement. Switch does have 120v to it and 0 ohmns when depressed.

    Thanks!

Does the motor make a 'hum' sound wen you press start?
If so then it may need a new capacitor.
A capacitor is what starts an electric motor.
Usually the capacitor is a cylindrical shape and white in colour, but colour can vary from white, black or silver.

    Is this the electronic model?

The other thing it could be is an over-temperature device which may have tripped out?

Have a look for a small round black part (sometimes square) that should have only 2 wires going to it. And check for a reset button of some kind (mostly red).

    Hope this helps?

Just stopped working. No burning smell. When start button pushed, some kind of tiny "click" sound heard around the timer.

The click is most likely the timer motor moving the dial on the timer. The motor circuit on American dryers is 120 volts whilst the heater requires 240 volts to operate its 5k element. The motor circuit always has the fuse in it. The heating element has limits mounted on it but they only kill power to the element and not the motor. Fuses are usually located on the blower housing next to the control thermostat. MORE HERE

When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it stops working and locks the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring).
It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Thanks Daniel

When dryer is started the timer can be heard and if the door switch is activated, the heating element will heat, but the drive motor does nothing. belt is ok

try holding the door button, have someone push the start button and you spin the tub at the same time. If it starts, it is most likely the start capacitor on the motor. If it does not start, look at door button, start switch/button, and lastly, the timer.

Runs when PTS held but shuts off when released/no heat

No problem at all.The motor has a start and run winding.Your run winding is bad.The reason you have no heat is the run winding has to run to close the contacts on the motor switch.Replace the motor ,both problems solved. Hope this helps Please rate my response :)

When it finishes, open the door and touch the element to see if it is hot (be careful, it can get pretty hot so wet your fingers to avoid burns).
Once the diagnostic has cleared, you should be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Heating element heats up, but dryer will not spin.

Since you stated that the heating element is heating up I believe it rules out the thermal switches.
When you push the start button does it make the motor make any noise? Maybe hear the motor humming? Two things to check for are Broken Belt or Bad Motor:
This requires common sense and since you are going to be bypassing the safety features you need be CAREFUL.

First, with door open, manually press in door switch to by-pass door safety, then press "start", try to manually start the dryer by spinning the drum by hand, If you hear the motor humming but it does not start spinning on it's own; most likely it is a broken belt which can be changed without much difficulty for less than $15 bucks. NOW if it then continues to spin on it's own GET YOUR HAND OUT OF THERE and close the door; you have a bad motor and even though it started it needs to be replaced. A motor for that is available for just under $100 bucks and is not to bad to replace, I would recommend replacing the belt at the same time since you will be in there. Good Luck!
