humming noise may be compressor stalled. put your hand on it and see if its hot. the click is the overload device operating. sounds like new compressor needed and that will not be cheap. not a diy job

PLEASE DISREGUARD GUEST FIXYA SOLUTION,FREEZER PROBLEM PROCEDURE IF NOT DEGITAL,FIRST CHECK IF ICE ON BACK FREEZER WALL. STEPS-FIND DEFROST TIMER,BOTTOM FRONT ,BOTTOM BACK, INSIDE FRIG.ON CONSOLE,LISTEN TO SEE IF FAN IS RUNNING IF SO TURN THE DEFROST TIMER CLOCKWISE TILL YOU HEAR A CLICK SEE IF FAN TURNED OFF IF SO YOUR FREEZER IS IN DEFROST,FREEZER WILL COME OUT OF DEFROST IN 20-30 MINUTES IF IT DOES AND THE FAN COMES ON YOU HAVE ELIMINATED DEFROST TIMER&FAN,NEXT REMOVE BACK PANEL TO FREEZER IF THERE IS ICE FORMING REMOVE BOTH LEADS TO HEAT AND CHECK WITH VOLT METER ON OMES,IF YOU GET ANY READING THE HEATER IS GOOD,IF NO READING REPLACE HEATER AND CLIPON TEMINATOR,IF HEATER IS GOOD DEFROST COILS WITH HAIR DRYER TOP TO BOTTOM AND THIS WILL ALSO CLEAR THE DRAIN,IF EVERYTHING CHECK OUT GOOD DEFROST TIMER ,FAN ,HEATER, DRAIN, YOU NEED ONLY TO REPLACE THE LITTLE ROUND CLIP ON TERMANATOR,LET ME KNOW-MIKE

You have a defrost system problem. Defrost is controlled by a timer which energizes the heater circuit. The heater circuit has a radiant or cal rod type heater which melts the frost from the coil. When the coil reaches a temperature where all ice would be gone a termination switch opens and shuts of the heater. The timer will continue to run until defrost time expires (18-22 minutes).

If you can locate the timer there is a clutch head screw to advance the timer to the defrost position. Turn the screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. The heaters should come on and defrost take place. If the unit restarts after the 18-22 minute period the timer is good, if it does not restart advance the screw to a second audible click and it will restart.
If you had to turn the timer the to second click to get it started cooling replace the timer.

If the unit restarted after the 18-22 minutes and defrost did not happen your problem is in the heater circuit. This would be an open heater or bad defrost terminator switch. To access the heater and defrost terminator the back panel in the freezer section must be removed. With an Ohm meter you can check the heater to see if it is good.

SOURCE: kenmore fridge model#596.52679200 side by side

remove back cover on evaporator inside frezeer if is full of ice all over then you have a defrost problem and you might have a faulty defrost timer or defrost thermostat repl both so you wont go wrong if the coils are clean and not frost is on coils then check compressor to see if its running just by touching you can find out if it si not running then you have a faulty relay or overload repl and compressor should start.if there is only partial frost then you have a leak or restriction depending when you bought it most refrigerators have a maufactures warranty on compressor for about 5 years call for service on the number on the sticker inside refirgerator

SOURCE: Freezer and frig is not working

I would start by pulling it out, removing the lower back panel, and see if the compressor is running. It is the black ball on the left side. If it is not running, check voltage at the two wires at the compressor. If there is voltage, try a new overload/relay kit. If there is no voltage, try a thermostat. If the compressor is running, check the evaporator behind the rear freezer panel to see if it is frozen solid, if it is, replace the defrost timer.

Kenmore model 106.53532300 side by side. Replaced compressor start kit, compressor now runs. Freezer freezes but refer still warm (60 degrees) what could be wrong

Are you cleaned the coils? Is it frosted?

If it is frosted then usually one of the defrost components has failed; maybe the defrost timer, defrost heater, or defrost thermostat.

Check it and keep us updated.

Kenmore 106.536323000 S/S: Not Cooling Enough

YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. FROST HAS BUILT UP SOMEWHERE AND THE FAN CAN'T BLOW PAST THE BLOCKAGE. OR ONLY A SMALL SECTION OF YOUR COILS IN THE FREEZER ARE COOLING DUE TO A CLOGGED FILTER OR BAD COMPRESSOR. PULL THE BACK COVER FROM INSIDE THE FREEZER AND LOOK AT THE COILS. THEY SHOULD HAVE A LIGHT FROST AVER THE ENTIRE COIL.IF IT IS A BIG BLOCK OF ICE YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM.

Kenmore won't cool down.

I you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Cooling (side by side)

An improper freon charge or a leak in the freon system.
