Question about Pentax Optio S7 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens extends after power, then buzzes, then goes back in and shuts off. It was working not too long ago. And I haven't dropped it. But I just tried to use it and it doesn't want to work. The battery seems to be fully charged. So I don not know the problem.

I have the same problem. Brought it back to pentax customer services to be fixed (had to courier it since they only open during my office hour) and they fixed it. The camera worked for 1 week and then stopped working again. Whenever I turned it on, the lens buzz then go back in and shut off. I brought it to a second-hand dealer and they said that it was damaged. But the camera was never dropped ... so I guess it was just inherently faulty. I see quite alot of people have the same problem.

I couldn't fix my Pentax Optio S10, but this is the best web site I found to address the problem we both have with lens extending, buzzing, then shutting off. I took my camera apart, and found that my lens was cracked around the edges.

My camara Nikon s205 shuts off after getting lens error when it goes into focus

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Turn camera on, lens goes in and out then camera shuts off

You may try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings.
If the issue persists then service will be required.

Lense error, restart your camera

If i told you to smack it around a bit would ytou believe me?

But that is the fix Canon use to get rid of these errors 98% of the time.
Charge or change the battery, insert it tuen camer on when it goes off smack it hard into your palm a few times and turn it back on.
Just incase there is some dirt/dust stopping the lens from extending blow a can of compressed air around it and give it another few slaps . Sometimes after about 20-30 ngoes of this the camera will jump back into service Believe me it does work nearly all the time Canon charged me $90 to do this trick

Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Nikon L3 Lens wont extend

Hi:
If the camera has not been abused, such as dropping, impact of some sort, or restricting the extending lens, then there is an internal problem.
See my other posts on suggestions of selling it.

Camera will not power up correctly

Again the same old compact camera zoom lens problems - sand in lens, stuck AF motor, chewed up plastic gears...you only have to look at them wrong and they will die... (A very cynical camera repairer that has tried to repair these damn things soo often!!) Even cameras with internal lenses like the old Nikon 950/990/4500 still have troubles with stuck motors and broken lens parts. I despair - these things are just made to last the guarantee out (if that long) and die horribly afterwards!!
