Simpletech Signature 500gb "is not accessible"

I have an external Signature 500gb that I cannot get my data from anymore. The Drive shows up in Vista and when checking it under Hardware is says it is working fine. 0gb free 0gb storage.

It just worked yesterday, when I restarted the computer today it didn't.

Drive spins up, blue lights flash and no data.

Right click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.

Go to DEVICE MANAGER and expand the DISK DRIVES category on the right side window.

You should see the Simpletech drive listed under there. Delete the Simpletech drive and click on OK. Restart the computer.

Windows should re-detect the simpletech and re-install the built in drivers automatically.

Did you try disconnecting and reconnecting? or diconnect it from usb, restart and reconnect. or connecting it to a different usb port.
give it some 30 seconds at least before you reconnect; electronics do not appreciate the current spikes and temperature diferences hot-cold-hot if you turn them on and off too fast.
try it in another pc if you can( if it does not work after all this, i would suspect it fried) or have the store test it if, they do that where you bought it( still under warranty period?)

HP windows 8 does not recognize simpleteck hard drive

I purchased a SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Onyx for my Vista machine and all was well. Then I purchased a Windows 7 machine. It would not recognize the devise. I contacted SimpleTech only to be told my model cannot be used on machines newer that the Vista. Recently I purchased a Windows 8.1, did a little research, plugged the SimpleTech into the 8.1 and reformatted it using the Windows feature. The SimpleTech is alive and well on my 8.1.

Before i used Vista system, right now i use windows 7, i can not open simpletech 500GB hard drive. why?

If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,you can recover data from hard drive with data recovery program.Tenorshare data recoveryis a professional data recovery program that can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htm After you recover your data, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.

Data on my Simpletech 160GB is gone...?

Take the drive out and put it in a new external case. the copying may have been caused by a virus in the computer.
