Question about Amana ARB2217CSL Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have an Amana refrigerator with a bottom freezer. Frequently we have to tap on the freezer control switch to start the refrigerator back up. It's getting bad and today the ice cubes were all melted until we tapped on that switch. Please tell me it's a very simple thing. Kidding kinda. Thank you!

If ice cubes are melting you will need help. That is not normal. It's common for any thermostat to seem to stick until its time to come on. Now if there is a big difference the controls need to be changed. You should maintain 0 f. degrees in freezer and 37 to 42 in the fresh food section. Anything above that is because of other reasons for example the door is opened a lot during day or warm items are placed inside to cool. When this happens it will stay on until the heat is removed. Now if you need help on this let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Your defrost assembly has probably stopped working, which means that you are probably also building up ice in between the panels.

Amana Refrigerator cooling problem

The energy saver switch doesn't really save you anything, all that does is turn off the mullion heater circuit which if you really add up the pennies on your electric bill, might save you enough in one year to cash in for a bite size snickers bar... leave that off. Replace the operating thermostat (freezer thermostat) to correct this problem. If you're concerned with being green, after you replace the thermostat, turn on the energy saver and see if this makes any difference, it shouldn't in operating temperatures. Wiring and diagrams are usually available at sears, or by visiting searspartsdirect.com.

Control board reset?

Amana version of adaptive defrost : Press refrigerator light switch five times in six seconds to initiate defrost cycle. Pressing five more times within six seconds will cancel defrost and go straight into the run mode. Similar operation on both bottom mount and SxS refrigerators. After the defrost terminator/thermostat opens, six minutes of dwell time occurs before the compressor and condenser fan motor will operate. After defrost terminator/thermostat open, 10 minutes of dwell time occurs before the evaporator fan motor will operate.
