To try and fix this(i have done it before) , pull it out when it is on , you have nothing to lose and manually assist it to open, try to get contamination out. replacing lense is probably not worth the cost

My fuji S1500 has a stuck lens. It gives me a ''zoom error'' message and won't let me do anything.

This is a common problem. The lens assembly has a lot of tiny gears that drive the lens in and out. When it gets bumped or dropped with the lens extended, or the lens is obstructed from opening, something in the assembly can get jammed, broken, or out of place. Here is a webpage that describes things you can try before you decide to repair it or not. Sometimes it's just dirt or sand that needs to be blown out with compressed air. http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
See if this helps. Last resort, repair. Make sure you get an estimate first, they can be pricey to repair.

The lens is stuck and I am getting a lens error

The number one problem in digital cameras today is the lens, impact damage, dirt, sand, pop, water or even age can kill a lens. Once the lens is faulty your camera is usually history. The sad reality is cameras today are so cheap to buy that camera techs can no longer afford to repair when a new camera can be bought for less than $200.00.

Len won't close , camera won't work

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Dropped fe- 230 camera in sand..spazzing out..help ASAP please

Borrow a friends camera or buy another.
The motorized lens assembly is contaminated, and
your only recourse is to replace the entire assembly.
It has very close tolerances and even replacing it is no guarantee that all the sand particles could be cleaned out of the camera body.
Sorry. No easy fix this time.

there actually is a little gear inside that moves the lens and since you already opened it make sure the gear is there and moves. LOTS of problems with these cameras....
