Toro LX 426 puts out white cloud of smoke whenever I start driving downhill. It recovers in seconds and returns to normal running.

Is this the type of problem usually covered by a warranty? The mower is only around a year old.

Am I likely to damage the motor if I continue to use the mower?

    Thanks,

    Dave Hastings

This is caused by the engine burning oil, the problem becomes worse as you load the engine up, this is caused by either a scored piston, scored cylinder wall or worn oil control piston ring or a combination of these problems. I would suggest u pull the cylinder barrel and check it, if it looks good hone the cylinder bore with a good cylinder ball type hone and then re-ring the piston.

I have a 18hp kohler it starts and ruins for 5/ 10 seconds and them shuts down and there is a cloud of white smoke

Air cooled engine ok ,
When the engine shut off did it white smoke out the garden it could be the head gasket
Low compression and it won't start poor compression and it might start but run poorly stall easily and white smoke produce because of unburnt fuel escaping into hot exhausts and vaporizing

My Toro has been great! But today saw white smoke from exhaust. Checked oil & added some. Few minutes later blew clouds of white smoke & air filter dripping oil. Did I just blow a head gasket?

Sounds more like the engine has been tipped, oil can then enter the air filter box via the engine crankcase breather, allow the engine to run with the filter removed until the smoke clears, refit a new filter if it is a paper element type and try again.

My 2000 Saab 9-5 2.3T occasionally smokes a decent slightly see through cloud of white smoke on cold starts, but for the rest of the day it doesn't do it. It also has been emitting a very small cloud...

White smoke usually indicates water could be a head gasket. Blue smoke when started and between shifts could be valve seals. usually expensive to fix.

Was using my toro lawn mower when big clouds of white smoke started to come out of it. I put oil in the oil tank and it started to pour out the air filter. How is that? Now it won't start at all.

You have big problems my friend! You have blown a head gasket, or broke the rings around the piston. The gasket isn't as bad as the rings. But neither is a good sign. It may be time to get a new mower; sorry for the bad news..... :-(

Whenever I start the car it smokes than after warming up it stops smoking.

The key is how much smoke? Does the smoke have a smell to it. Are you consuming any fluids, like coolant, or oil?

Tons White smoke that is sweet smelling is usually coolant getting into the combustion chamber.

Less white smoke, especially if other cars are doing it, is normal. For every gallon of gas that you burn, you generate a gallon (GALLON) of water. so this water usually evaporates, but sometimes not. It has little or no smell.

If the smoke is bluish white, that is oil, but usually your converter would fill with oil, and cause error codes, or loss of power. This smell is distinct, but not necessarily sweet.... After the converter heats up, it may be able to burn off the oil and the smoke stops.

What are you consuming, fluid wise, will direct where you go next.

Oil causing a problem?

Sound as if you have too much oil in the machine. Anytime you see white or lite gray smoke it is a sign of too much oil. Before you go through the routine of cleaning the oil out of every nook and cranny, try unscrewing the spark plug and clean it with a soft rag. It would have oil on it preventing the machine from starting. If this does work and there isn't a lot of oil in the gas tank now, just continue running the engine until the smoke clears. It won't hurt anything. But if cleaning the plug doesn't help you will have to empty all gas and oil from the gas tank, refill with new gas, squirt a little gum out carb cleaner in your carb to remove any oil there (this can be done when you try to restart the engine). Remember, when you are mowing grass if you are mowing on a hill) of any knd, make sure to turn the mower so the gas tank is on a higher level than the oil.

Clouds of white smoke

its normal it just a moisture in your piping which causing to smoke that way...but if the smoke still when normal driving you might check the reservoir for cloudy water instead of coolant in that case you may have a blown head gasket if you got luck but if no cylinder or head are crack..anyways do not worry about white smoke you must worry if you have black smoke
