Sims 3 not working with DVD drive that came with Toshiba laptop.

I have the MATSHTA DVD-RAM UJ-841S as well. I read on the Sims 3 website that it is common with the driver and didnt really give an answer how to fix it. It just feels like i wasted 50 dollars.
I dont see how its the dvd drive, all my other games work just fine.
