great ma ma- first of all if the tv was dropped,then there is a good chance that the pc board was damaged most likely a small crack near the audio section.This sort of repair is probably better left to someone with very good soldering skills. Closed captioning isn't broadcast on every channel and program, so the information may not be present. Since captions are displayed on other channels, you know the set is working properly. If you are on a cable system you can try asking their customer service people if they know anything. But the TV is fine.

To enable close cationing on your TV follow this:-
 Press "Menu" button on the remote control to appear "Setup" menu on the screen.
 Use "Up and Down" arrows on the remote contol to select "Captions/Text" on your screen.
 Press "Right or Left " arrows to select any one of the following options. Caption-1, Caption-2, Caption-3, Caption-4 Text-1, Text-2, Text-3, Text-4.
 Press enter to return TV viewing.
To turn the caption feature to "On" or "Off'
 Press menu key on the remote control to display "Setup" menu.
 Using "UP/DOWN" buttons to select captions on your screen.
 Press "Right or Left" arrow to switch the captions feature 'ON" or "OFF" or "EZ Mute"
 Press enter to continue.

CC (Closed Caption)
To select the options in the CC sub-menu, press the MENU button or the #
button. A new menu will be displayed showing the following CC settings:
The CC feature is available when watching regular analog (NTSC) TV.
Select from CC1, CC2, CC3 or CC4. Closed Caption for regular TV is
usually CC1 or CC2.
Digital CC Style
The Digital CC Style feature is available when watching digital TV.
Select either As Broadcaster or Custom. If Custom is selected then
you can customize the way Closed Caption is displayed.
