Question about NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Router
I have recently purchased this router on tigerdirect and it was refurbished but when setting it up it won't let me change my region, it says united states in a gray back round and my mode is always set for 6 can't change that neither. I live in Canada and my IP address doesn't match. Anyone know how to change this called netgear for support but they won't help since it's refurbished!
I've been having the same problem for over a year now. From these posts I finally became aware there are the US version and the rest of the world versions of the firmware. Even though the configuration software supposedly checks for latest versions it had not installed it and I suspect it was the US version because I could not chnage the region. Anyway, I changed the region by changing the mode to "g and b" and then changed the chaneel to "Auto", loaded the latest rest of the world formware (version 1.08 at time of writing) and then suddenly it all works beautifully. I wish I had known this months ago but I am truly thankful for your information in helping me solve this extremely frustrrating issue.

The router only operates on channel 6 when set to Auto 108Mbps mode.
The country setting is jammed on US because the router seems to ship everywhere with the US firmware so selecting any other country is fruitless. You can solve this problem by going to the Netgear website and downloading firmware for non-US countries. The non-US firmware also has a number of other bug-fixes too. Remember to connect the router directly to the computer using an ethernet cable when doing the update.

IP address is irrelevant as far as region is concerned, Relic.
Try a factory reset IF you know how to program all the necessary information back into the router.
Press and HOLD IN the reset button on the back of the router
Power off and back on again, DO NOT release the button for at least 15 seconds, preferably 30. This should wipe all the config from the router and will give your PC an automatic IP address ( the factory default) so you can connect to the router to program it.
These routers should support any region and IP address, so it must have been locked by whoever refurbished it.

When the mode is set to Auto-108 Mbps, the channel can only be set to 06. Use the mode pull-down to change the mode to "g and b" - this will then allow you to choose any channel via the channel pull-down.

Try resetting the router by pressing and holding the reset button hidden at the back for a good few seconds.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
