Question about Dell Computers & Internet
Well, no doubt it's time to do some maintenance, and possibly some malware cleaning, maybe add some ram.
See links here, here, here, and here for performance tweaks.
Run chkdsk c: /r to check your hard drive for corruption. Instructions here and here.
Follow at least the first 4 steps of these malware removal protocols to scan your system for otherwise undetected malware that's causing problems, regardless of what security you already have.
Remove any problems MBAM finds.
Then take a look at your system ram. Nowadays, an xp system with less that 1Gb is going to drag a bit, and if you can max out your system's ram (to 2 Gb) it will run more sweetly.
The loudness I can't comment on, except to say that sometimes a loud fan is an indication that the power supply is ailing or about to go. If the hard drive is making noise, make sure you have backups of any data you deem savable. You might open the case and blow or **** the dust bunnies out...
If you work through all that and it seems to be running fine, after a day or so turn system restore off, reboot, then turn it back on. That will purge all the old restore points from your drive, freeing up some disk space.
Check your AV or security software and see how it stands up to resource light apps like Eset's NOD or Avira's free AV. If you're using an internet security suite it could be bogging the whole system down. See the AV Comparatives reports.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
