Question about Kirby G5 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Can't seem to pick up small items like lemon pips with Kirby G5. It just runs over them or pushes them backwards and forwards.

It sounds like your belt is broken, OR your beater bar is rotating but has not been adjusted downward to reach the carpet pile. Check by running the vacuum and looking to see if the beater is moving.

Kirby g series not picking up very well

Is the bag full? the bag is full when it has about 6 inches of dirt in the bottom.. I never use it when it reaches above that level.. The roller may be at an incorrect height.. Too High.. or TOO LOW.. Put the roller at the lowest point then press the lever until it gets to a level where its easy to push, so the brush is just above the carpet etc.. the vacuum has to be able to suck up past the roller..
there is a special roller brush for dog hair... Not many vacuum cleaners will pick up dog hair... as it clings to the carpet, and it is too thin to be pulled up by the vacuum.. regardless of the suction..
the hair has to be dislodged by the roller brush and then sucked up.

My kirby g4 motor runs backwards and so the power drive when pushed forward wants to go backwards. I need the wiring diagram so I can get it wired correctly.

The wires to the switch, coming from the carbon brushes, have been reversed. The carbon brush closest to the switch goes on the lower switch terminal.

Kirby G5 - the Tech Drive does seem to have much power

you need either a new nutreal cam bracket assembly, that is what engages and disengages the tech drive.OR to adjust the handle pivot assy- diffucult . this is not for the faint of heart. it is possible to fix them as i used to repair kirbys, however, I remember how frustrating it was to figure out how to disassemble and reassemble them. it is very complicated to a novice. I would recomend having it repaired professionaly. it is possible for a professional to repair it in a very short period of time.

another thing to consider. look on the UNDERSIDE of your Kirby, between the two drive wheels. just in fronnt of the tech drive/nutreal switch. there should be a screw there, tighten that screw up. actually tighten all of them. on My generation 3 the center screw came loose and it would not go in to drive and it would make an aweful clatter. hope this was helpful

G2000 Kirby HELP

I'm not familiar with this type of vacuum, but if it's like most kirby's the powerhead gets all its motion off the tapered spindle underneath the powerhead. IF the belt is installed backwards on this spindle then all motions are reversed. there should be an arrow stamped into the blower housing. the belt should be installed so it is nearest to the arrow in the direction of the arrow on the housing.
