Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

My dryer doesn't dry

There is no heat, but it also doesn't shut off now. The timer does not move and the heater isn't working. Is my heater broken, or my timer, or both?

The timer is responsible for initiating the actions of the entire drying cycle. if it is not moving, this will confirm timer failure. replacing this failed timer control module will fix this issue.

To clarify, its the timer that is malfunctioning. the heating assembly is fine.

Whirlpool dryer doesnt heat, time and shut off when you open the door

if you have it on time dry and it doesn't count down the timer is bad but it should stop when you open the door unless you have a broken door switch too, just open the door and push in on the switch with your finger,it should make a clicking sound,if not the door switch is also broke,if you have the timer on auto or more or less then it won't move without heat.on auto the heat comes on when the dryer reaches temp. the heat shuts off and the timer will advance a little, then the heat starts again and the timer stops,it will do this until the clothes are dry by using a sensor instead of time.

Dryer runs with no heat and never shuts off on its own

what are you running it on?auto or more or less,if so the timer will not advance to off without heat, usually the heat comes on,the dryer heats up until it reaches temp.the heater shuts off and then the timer will start to advance to off, when the heat comes back on the timer will stop advancing and the heat will come on,it will do this until the clothes are dry,so no heat the timer will not move, now if you put it on time dry the timer should count down no matter what just like a clock.if you open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes in you'll see a tag with the model number send this and i can help you.

I have a Whirlpool LER4634PQ1 it was working just fine then all of a sudden the dryer just keeps running the knob on the dryer doesn't move and the air isn't warm. Any suggestions on what to s

there is a cycling thermostat in line with the high limit thermostat and timer circuit,on timed dry its disabled and the timer will run no matter what,on any sensor dry setting it uses the heat of the element to heat this cycling thermostat to move the timer as the clothes get drier as the heating element heats the timer doesn't move, when the heater cycles off from the high limit thermostat then timer moves again, you need to find out if its a bad heating element, thermal fuse or possibly even a circuit breaker in the homes electrical panel tripped out on one of the 2 phases that gives you the 240 volts required to operate the dryer element, the breaker may not show its tripped,so shut it off and back on and try this first

Does Not Shut Off

1st go the the house breaker (dbl breaker) for the dryer and shut it off and turn it back on, your dryer runs on 220 volts of power but if the breaker is partially tripped it may be only running on 110 volts which is only enough power to turn the lights on and to turn the drum the element needs 220 volts to turn on. If it still doesn't heat after resetting the breaker then you may need a heating element or thermostat. The dryer isn't shutting off because it isn't detecting the clothes are getting dry so once you fix your heating problem the dryer should start shutting off on its own again.

THE TIMER IS NOT ROTATING(I CAN MANUALLY ROTATE IT,BUT IT DOES NOT MOVE WHEN THE DRYER IS RUNNING). DRYER DOES NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH HEAT AND IT TAKES LOT OF TIME (4HRS)TO DRY THE LAUNDRY.

You need to buy a new timer and replace it. Be careful when replacing the timer as there are many electrical contacts in the back of the timer so when remove it, please label all the wires. Please follow the instruction from the manufacturer how to replace the timer. Of course, make sure you unplug the dryer because the dryer is powered by 220~240 VAC not 110~120 VAC.
As for the heater, there are two possibilities. The first one is, part of the heating element is open circuit and therefore, there is not enough heat to your clothing. The second possibility is, your timer contacts is broken, when the timer asks for high heat, the electricity supposes going to all the heating elements, but since the timer contacts are broken, you have only part of the heating elements working. The heating elements are quite easy to replace but please replace the timer first. You may fix both problems once you replaced the timer. WL

My dryer works but no heat

If your dryer runs, but does not heat the following link will explain how to troubleshoot:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

The majority of dryer heat related problems are caused by poorly installed, improper, kinked, or clogged ventilation exhaust ducting. Pay particular attention to the section that discusses ventilation. Failure to ensure the dryer is properly ventilated will result in repeated failures of any components you may replace. In addtion, this can become a fire hazard.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Dryer Timer dial will not move but dryer works

Will the dryer move forward in timed dry? if it does not then you need a new timer. If if will advance in timed dry but does not advance in auto mode then the high limit needs to be replaced on the heater.

It will not heat and the timer will not shut off.

The timer naturally won't shut off till the sensors inside the drum no longer get a capacitance reading when the clothes are completely dry. The moisture control board relays power to the timer motor when it is sure the clothes is dry. The heating element could be broken.Unplug the dryer. Take the back off. Get the heater off and take a look at it. Check your vent pipe, if it has lint in it then your high limit is probably open. The fuse ain't broken because the dryer still runs. Both parts in the kit need to be replaced. because the big one is supposed to shut down at 250F the little one(high limit) mounts in the upper heater housing and gives up the ghost when the temp reachs 300F. The fuse mounted on the blower housing is rated to die at 350F. It is tied into the door safety switch, when it dies it is the same as if you opened the door. The dryer will not run. BTW: if you ain't got the $ to get a new limit you can reset it by banging it on the floor in a fit of rage. LOL
