Question about HP OfficeJet 6110 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Scanner Failure unable to print

For a while my officejet 6100 started making the sound (It seems like perhaps a gear withiin the scanner is stuck, slipping, or jammed) Anyways, for a while this problem would accur yet I could usually figure out a way for the officejet to work (by resetting, restarting. . .) Then, all the functions worked fine.

Now however, I am having the same problem. Nothing I do is stopping the scanner problem, so I'm unable to utilize any of the officejet functions. My main concern is printing, yet if there is a way to continuel scaning from the document feed it would be helpfull.

Thanks, I will try these suggestions. If It is simply impossible to fix without a hardware tech, does anyone know if I can uninstal the scanner function and use only the printer?

See the solution posted here, with links to answers on the HP online support site.
also see this link
Here's a link that will explain how to reset the printer, which is worth a try.
There's a fix for this, I think I've seen somewhere, but I can't find it. From what I recall, the scanner motor reads a label on the underside of the glass to set itself when started up, and if this isn't read correctly, the motor keeps churning instead of stopping, even though the scanner is already in position.
Maybe this link will do it. Good luck!
Or perhaps there's something in the HP forums...
If I were you I'd find a comfy chair and a few hours of spare time and call HP tech support.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Here are a couple of links to that other solution I mentioned. Was for a different scanner, similar problem. Link here and here.

Anyway, try cleaning the scanner and the white strip.

Not printing

When printing from the microsoft word document, make sure the printer selected is right. By that, i mean the default printer selected in the printers icon under the control panel should be HP OfficeJet 6100 series and not HP OfficeJet 6100 fax.
So the reason why this message comes up " scanner failure ". is you are either selecting a wrong printer when printing from microsoft word document or probably the printer port is not selected right.

To check the printer port.
Click on start-->control panel-->printer & faxes-->right click on HP OfficeJet 6100 series--> select properties-->Select the top tab called ports-->
Check the ports selected here.
If you have a USB connected printer it should be your printer model with USB settings.
If you have a wireless connected printer it should be your printer model with wireless settings like IP address.

SCANNER FAILURE TURN OFF AND ON IT WILL NOT

On the top of the scanner mechanism, there is a black tab that gets caught on the underside of the scanner surface, just beyond the glass, towards you. You will hear a gear grinding sound, that"s the tab getting caught and the motor skipping on the belt. either bend the tab down, or remove it. Its on the black cover that"s on top of the scanner mechanism. Also remove any tape that is on the bottom of the trailing cable under the scanner mechanism that prevents it from moving all the way to the left. This worked for me, It drove me nuts till I found out.

HP Officejet Pro L7680 All in One - cannot send faxes - keeps jamming and says "scanner failure unable to scan copy or send a fax. Turn the power off and on and try again" I have done this several times...

The scanner is the problem, the scanner is the real bright light that comes on to scan the orginal document. Does your Scanner lamp come on? mite be burned out? stating scanner failure, doses your scanner move when it scannes the document? Motor or cicruit board that control scanner mite be bad, check the scanner "Home " position sensor maybe the scanner board and main board don't know where the scanner is phyiscal when it goes thur its routine.

Scanner failure-no longer prints

Hi, I'll give your situation a "stab in the dark" solution. It sounds like you are in the final stages of "scanner system failure". The beginning stages usually limits the all-n-1 to print only i.e., no scan and no fax but you may have such a severe scanner bulb situation that is preventing the print function and may be causing hazardous conditions within your printer and it will do nothing to prevent further harm or damage. Can you describe your situation a bit more detailed?

HP OfficeJet D145 unable to print or scan

It could be the bulb. Sometimes disassembling the scanner and thoroughly cleaning the glass and mirror will help.
