Had a similar problem. What you need are new "dogs" inside the agitator cone. "Agitator Repair Kit"
Parts found here:
Guarantee this will fix the agitator not spinning/working, unless the entire spindle isn't going back and forth.
I ordered this kit from these good folk and it arrived in 3 days.
All you need to replace these parts is a 7/16" socket with a 6" or longer extension & socket driver.
10 minutes, you can do this!
Hvae fun!

Whirlpool washer. the agitator just stopped in mid wash. there was heavy towels. . could the heavy towels have caused the agitator to stop.? does the agitator come off.?

the agitator cam be removed but that will not be the problem
if it has a belt drive , probably the belt broke or the agitator solenoid /engagement lever has broken
you will need the model and serial number when you call the technician for a proper diagnosis

Our Kenmore 110-21252110 Washing machine is not agitating, what could be wrong?

IT could be the agitator dogs that are chewed up and not gripping like they should. I am including a link to the Sears parts direct website so that you can see what they are. Second link is to a video on how to change them.

The two piece agaitor is not working the bottom part as it should .what makes the bottom part go in reverse ? model # LXR7144EQ1

Hi, Welcome to FixYa. You'll need to remove the top of the agitator, (the cap) and then the 9/16" or 1/2" or possibly a 7/16" bolt in the may look nothing like a bolt, it may be a plastic block, but it still screws off counter-clockwise. Once you have the agitator unfastened, you'll expose the hub/retainer which hold's the gears in place. Now you need to install new dogs ( alone part # 80040 ) or part # 285751 as a kit with new hub too. These are availble at most brick & mortar parts depot's as well as on-line vendor's such as"" or "" to name a couple. I`d also suggest you go to "youtube" and type in "whirlpool agitator repair" you'll then find many helpful videos on "how to". The machines may have slight differences and features, but they are the same essentially...Kenmore, Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Roper & Estate etc. Hope that help's, let me know if I can assist you further. Thank's for visitng "fixya" today. Please take a second to rate this solution & leave a testimony. Good luck, macmarkus :)
