Pioneer DEH-P460MP Won't Turn On

I needed a radio/CD player for my '95 Dakota (Sony Died). I work at an auto salvage yard and came across a Pioneer DEH-P460MP. It was in a wrecked Plymouth Breeze. Radio & CD worked fine. Brought it home. Same connectors as my Dakota. Hooked it up. Won't turn on. With key in "accesory" position meter shows power to the red wire. Nothing to the yellow wire. Does this radio have to have battery back-up to turn-on? Does it have a security code? Something else?

So, Are you saying that the stereo will not turn on if it does not have voltage to the yellow wire?

    Thanks!

I understand that the yellow is for memory. What I don't know is if it will keep the radio from turning-on if there is no yellow voltage (some Kenwood radios are like this). Or, could it be that the radio being unplugged from power activated a sucurity condition where it won't turn on?

That was it! I wired the yellow into the red and the radio works. I'll either have to trace the problem in my truck's wiring harness, or tap into a wire that's always hot. Anyway, you helped me figure it out.

    Thanks and regards!

What I normally do in these situation I put orange with red and connect it to while I put a negative ground to the body of the cd player. Then it should power up if nothing else is stopping it.Also check the fuse at the back of the radio.Remember the orange wire I think is for permanent electric supply to store radio stations and settings..Any question then feel free to ask.I hope this helps.

The yellow wire keeps a constant voltage going to the stereo at all times. This is the wire that keeps stereo memory. What you should do is to trace the circuit (this wire) all the way back probing with your positive lead on your meter and then see at what point in the circuit that it does not have voltage and base your repairs on that. I really cannot give you an accurate diagnosis without actually knowing where the wire is not getting voltage

My car battery died, after giving the car a jump, the car started, but now my pioneer DEH-P2900MP car stereo won't work at all. could you please assist. thanks.

If you have already checked the fuse(s) that supply the radio and none are blown, you may want to try to reset the unit by disconnecting the power feed to it. Keep in mind that the radio likely has two power feeds...one for the ignition and another that keeps all memory functions up and running, even when the ignition is off. Disconnecting both of these may allow the radio to reset.

No sound from Pioneer DEH-P4600MP unit? Everything powers up and function, wires are installed correctly.

check the speakers to see if they work. also check if the vehicle has an amplifier. if still no sound try to connect the radio directly with a speaker in the back with the wires that come with the radio. sometimes when one of the speakers in the vehicle is shorted out it will not sound. if you have tried all of the above and still no sound you might have a bad (ic) intergrated circuit. it is located on the back end of the radio. the aluminum piece is bolted on to it. just look where two bolts are at least an inch apart almost in the middle. the ic# is pal007a. that can be replaced with different model numbers like tda 7384 and so on.
