Gateway netbook LT2802u. I want to use the built in camera - webcam - manually. It works on Skype - I can take pictures to post for my profile and it works as a webcam. Also I can find the webcam in device manager and it tells me it is working fine or some such. So how do I access it to take pictures?

Just check with the website of the computer manufacture and see the specs you will find your answer or else if still have the doubt thn installed skype and check that you have the webcam or not

Have you tried a boot up disk? Re-setting your CMOS by hitting a special key as soon as you turn it on? Also try hitting the F-8 key after turning it on for a menu that may help.

If it has no sounds of say music that you would hear of its system launching then its possible its Back up battery has failed an scrambled the Bios, this is a disc like lithium battery in a holder

Easiest way to activate the webcam I've found, is not to try hunting for the driver, etc... it's usually pre-installed for laptops or netbooks with built-in cameras, best way is to download applications like Skype with video chat, install the software, and then test using Skype. That usually works.

I have the same laptop, and i got the same problem with the camera, but see what i found. The built-in camera is located in the same piece of plastic that camera does. Then, if you open/close the laptop so many times, this seems to damage the camera connection and is like it doesnt have any camera. So when i want to use the camera, i simply push with my thumb around the camera, and run the program/chat or anything that i will use the camera. Of course, you first look at the drivers, if correct , then try the other solution i post. And theres no built in microfone. Hope it solve it.

This will bring back a non-working device in most cases but not all. Try going into the control panel and then into the device manager. Then remove the web cam from the device manager listing and re-boot the computer. Windows should automatically detect the webcam after the computer is finished re-booting and install the software. Then verify if the webcam is working properly. If it does not automatically detect the webcam then you will need to go into the control panel and try to scan for new hardware and see if windows is seeing the device. If it detects the hardware then follow the instructions from the windows prompts to re-install the drivers and software. If windows does not see the webcam even when you try to manually detect hardware then the webcam might be defective. You could also go to gateway's website and download the latest drivers that are available for your netbook and update them. How to use the built-in webcam? The integrated webcam can be used by third-party applications such as Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Skype etc. Use the webcam button in the messenger software and it will automatically turn on and start the webcam.
Select models of Acer netbooks also ship with a program "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam". This program will enable the webcam immediately after startup and can be used to take pictures and record video.

For our Linux-based netbook, you can find the Instant Messenger program in the "Connect" section on the desktop . Additional software like Skype, are available through our special website for the Aspire One netbook. Within the "Fun" section of your Linux desktop, you will find a program called "Webcam" which can be used to test the built-in webcam.


Look for "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" entry in the programs menu, then right click on the program icon and click on "Send to the desktop as a shortcut".

Then choose Aspire One and then choose the model of your netbook, After you do that choose the webcam drivers and download the to the desktop.

After the download is done go ahead and run the install and that should reinstall the drivers for the webcam and skype should work with it.
