Burns popcorn Hello,I had this model for many years, it worked fine. I could pop the corn, walk away for 10minutes, never would burn. This new one sometimes will burn the popcorn before it finishes, and if I leave it in there like I did with the other one, for more than 5mins, it starts burning the popped corn. I had the same problem...

I took the unit apart and there is a temp sensor that turns off too soon. I love the unit so much, I'm buying a new one and gonna bypass the sensor before I even use it.. I have to buy another unit because I didn't pay attention to how I disassembled my old one but know how to hack it now without tearing the whole unit apart next time.

They are just making them with cheaper parts,so they dont work as well

Why is popcorn burning?

If you are sure the corn is not dried out, sounds to me like its not getting hot enough. It will just dry out the moisture in the seed and burn it if the kettle is not hot enough to make the moisture expand and pop the seed open.

IF YOU PUT BUTTER IN FOR POPPING CYCLE IT WILL BURN. BUTTER IS ADDED WHEN MAKING CARMEL CORN WHILE POPPING INSTEAD OF THE COATING THE CORN AFTER IT IS POPPED METHOD BUT, IT IS ADDED LATER NOT WHEN YOU WOULD PUT OIL IN.

Popcorn burns

If the corn/ oil ratio is correct , check the thermostat operation . It is burning because it's in there too long from lack of heat to make it pop.

Try new popcorn, popcorn dries out and does not pop well after being opened.

If the popcorn does not pop, and just turns black then it is too cold. If it pops very rapidly and then burns it is too hot. It is almost never too hot if you shut it off fast enough.

Pop your corn outside until the oil burns away. Then keep butter away from the popper or below it.

Your power level should be on high, but you shouldn't rely on the oven to time the cooking. I have yet to find an oven that won't burn popcorn if it has a preset POPCORN button. Press it and walk away and next thing you know, you've got charcoal. You should always stick around while making popcorn. Stop the oven and take the bag out when the time between pops drops to 1 or 2 seconds. The corn will continue to pop on its own for a bit because of stored heat, but you won't burn it. You'll never get 100% of the corn to pop, so don't worry about unpopped kernels.

How much oil or corn do you use in the Back to Basics Pop Corn Popper for the stove

unless you have the instruction manual, only trial-and-error will tell you. Start with 2 tablespoons of oil and 1/2 cup of corn kernals. If there is oil left after the corn is popped, decrease the amount of oil by a teaspoon. If the popped corn is burned, increase the oil by a teaspoon. As for the corn, if the pot is full when the popping is done, 1/2 cup is the right amount. If the popped corn over flows, 1/2 cup is too much. Vary the oil and corn until you get it right. Good luck! NEED AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR ''OLD FASHIONED MOVIE TIME POPCORN

The usual way to use a pop corn popper is to:
1st - add oil
2nd - add popcorn
3rd - add any seasoning (if using the pre-packaged "theater" popcorn mix).

DO NOT add butter into the popper, as it will burn quickly and make for some foul tasting pop corn.

You can always add butter and salt to taste AFTER the pop corn is done popping.
