Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

Open Question

Check Lint Screen indicator is flashing, dryer won't start

I have a similar problem. The control panel works and lights up, but whenever I select a cycle, the selected cycle indicator light flashes and the check lint screen flashes. Pushing Start does not turn on the dryer. I just clicks once and beeps once.

The problem was a broken belt. There is a sensor on the motor that is aware that the belt is missing and stops the motor. The Lint Screen indicator is a idiot light that goes on with every load. Never noticed it before.

SOURCE: bosch axxis WTL lint indicator problem.

it may be a sensor fault, most dryer inlets are from the back.if the internal ducts are blocked it can cause this broblem, sometimes the drain hose from the pump can get a hair ball stuck in them.you may have to dismantle the dryer to find the solution.hope this helps.

SOURCE: lint filter wanring signal

I have a vented (not condensation) model, but I found a solution which may apply to both:

If you routinely use dryer sheets, they have a waxy substance which clogs the lint filter, limiting airflow and causing the sensor to trigger even when you've manually removed all the lint. Is your lint filter as white as the day you bought the unit? If not, wash the filter with dishwashing soap and use your fingers (not your nails) or a soft sponge to wipe the lint filter repeatedly. After doing this I saw a huge difference in the appearance of the filter (it was clean) and the lint filter light stopped triggering.

control panel and button problems are common on these units, so it may be necessary to replace the entire control board which will cure your issue of fighting for the correct setting.

As for the dryer taking forever to dry clothes, check to see that the vent hose in your home (wherever it goes) is not clogged. You may have to have it cleaned out by a professional or if you're handy, use a shop-vac in reverse to blow the lint out ot it!

READING ERROR CODES

1. Rotate cycle selector knob to the 3 O'clock position.

2. Press and hold the Select and Pause Cancel buttons simultaneously for six seconds.

3. Immediately after, press and hold the START and Pause Cancel buttons simultaneously for 4 seconds.

4. Rotate the cycle selector knob to the 2 O'clock position. The four indicator lights of Drying, Cool Down, Wrinkle Rid

(Press Saver), and Clean Lint Filter will flash the number of times for the first digit of the code and the START indicator

light will flash the number of times for the second digit. Take separate counts of each indicator light, then repeat to

confirm in order to be accurate in identifying the proper error code. The code is obtained by counting the number of times

the lights flash. Example E24: The four indicator lights would flash twice indicating the 2 and the START indicator light

will flash four times indicating the 4. The four indicator lights and the START indicator light start flashing at the same

time. The control will pause for 2 seconds, then repeat the code.

NOTE: A letter appearing in the code stands for a number higher than nine. A = 10 B = 11 C = 12 D = 13 E = 14 F = 15

Example Code E4A: the first digit would be 4 and the second digit would be 10. The four indicator lights would blink four

times and the START indicator light would blink ten times. Troubleshoot the problem by using the chart below.

To move on to the next code, press the OPTIONS button.

To clear code, press the Select button. Code will be cleared when mode is exited.

Error code CL on Kenmore Dryer

The "Check lint screen" light is just a reminder to check the and clean the lint screen before or after each load. There is not a sensor that will detect if it's clean or dirty, it's just a reminder. The "Check lint screen" should turn off as soon as the dryer is started. If it never turns off then the control board would need to be replaced in order for the check lint screen reminder to turn off, however the check ling screen reminder light staying on will not effect the operation of the dryer.
Here is the control board to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return.

When I press start, it sometimes does nothing.

Hello,, there is likely a switch incorporated in your lint filter assembly that is defective, a close examination of how the lint filter is positioned will reveal the location of the switch, you can use an ohm meter to check the switch operation or for the cost of it maybe just replace it, the control panel is not at fault.

Model 11-85862400: Check Lint Screen light blinking and will not start. Cleaned sensor and all bottom inside of dryer. Will not start.

Disconnect power and remove the two screws from the bottom flange of the toe panel then pull the panel down and off the cabinet.
4f8895d.jpg

Remove the screw from the lint duct bracket and remove the bracket. Remove the two hex-head screws from the lint duct and remove the duct.
5648f7d.jpg

Remove the wires from the terminals of the thermal fuse then join them together and insulate the connection properly.
18a0895.jpg

Reconnect power then press start. Replace the thermal fuse along with the thermistor if the dryer starts. The thermal fuse is wired in series with the motor and if it is blown, power to the motor is terminated and will not run. No dryer function works when the motor doesn't run. The thermal fuse usually blows due to failed thermistor or blocked lint screen or vents. This is the reason the "Check lint screen." message flashes.

Disconnect power, if the dryer still doesn't start, then remove the top panel and check if the belt is still on. The belt activates the belt switch which is also wired in series with the motor and the thermal fuse. The motor will therefore not run if the drive belt is off and the belt switch is not activated.

Check the wire connections on the electronic control board. The electronic control board has indeed failed and needs to be replaced as what the Sears repairman said. The electronic control board is part number 8546219 and it costs about $180.

Kenmore he3 dryer check lint screen flashes and dryer wont start. Yes checked lint screen

Hi
Try unplugging it or turning off the power at the breaker panel. This should reset the controls.
Weather this works or not, make sure that the whole dryer vent is clear. often we find a clog in the flexible line, or where the duct exits the house. also there are situations where the clogged duct caused a lint plug inside the dryer. Assuming you can reset the controls, you can run the dryer for a minute with the hose unhooked to see if you are venting the right amount of air.
OR
It is possible the heating element has gone out or one of the thermal disk has blown its fuse. If you turn the dryer on holding the button that is depressed when the door is closed so that the dryer will run you should be able to see if the heating element is getting hot because it should show as a red glow. If this is not happening then most more than likely the heating element has gone out. Most of the time they are fairly easy to replace.
OR
a simple thing is that When the lights are flashing, it is an error code, which indicates a problem with the door switch. Could be a loose connection there.
Thanks for contacting fixya.com

Another post reported replacing the power cord. I am trying to determine if this is a factory defect. Check the power at the power cord connections inside the dryer. You could have lost power on one leg and the other 120 volt leg is letting the light work. Let me know what the model and serial number is.

Error code DR

Pull the tech sheet out of the dryer ( behind the lower front access panal ). The lights flashing are trying to tell you a fault code.

A copy:

MODEL DIFFERENCES: • Better models have a digital readout display
• Good models do not have a digital readout display
READING ERROR CODES 1. Position cycle selector knob to the 3 O’clock position.
2. Press and hold the Select and Pause Cancel buttons simultaneously for six seconds.
3. Immediately after, press and hold the START and Pause Cancel buttons simultaneously for 4 seconds.
4. Rotate the cycle selector knob to the 2 O’clock position.
On better model dryers, the error code will appear in the digital display. On good models, the five indicator lights of
Drying, Cool Down, Wrinkle Rid, and Clean Lint Filter Spin will flash the number of times for the first digit of the code
and the START indicator light will flash the number of times for the second digit. Take separate counts of each indicator
light, then repeat to confirm in order to be accurate in identifying the proper error code. The code is obtained by counting
the number of times the lights flash. Example E24: The five indicator lights would flash twice indicating the 2 and the
START indicator light will flash four times indicating the 4. The five indicator lights and the START indicator light start
flashing at the same time. The control will pause for 2 seconds, then repeat the code.
Note: A letter appearing in the code stands for a number higher than nine.
A = 10 B = 11 C = 12 D = 13 E = 14 F = 15
Example Code E4A: the first digit would be 4 and the second digit would be 10. If this code would appear on a dryer in
the Good model line, the five indicator lights would blink four times and the START indicator light would blink ten times.
Troubleshoot problem by using chart below.
To move on to the next code, press the OPTIONS button. To clear code, press the Select button.
To exit this mode, simultaneously press and hold the Select and Pause Cancel buttons for six seconds.
