SOURCE: Kenmore top freezer fishy smell

if it has an icemaker attached, this may cause your problem. to get rid of the fishy smell, get a box of baking soda, open it a little, and stick it somewhere in your freezer. this will help to filter the air and make it fresher. Also some vegetables can cause this noxious smell, especially if cooked then frozen or if a box or bag of bad frozen vegetables has been stored in the freezer. Our freezer recently had a problem with the icemaker making it smell musty, like after a rain, wet dirt, and I have yet to find a real solution to this problem other than baking soda.

SOURCE: The Vacum condenser light comes on. I vacumed the

Hi there

There are a few of possibilities

Switch off and unplug before trying these.

1. You may not have got all the dust out of the condenser, sometimes you need to shine a torch through from the back and see if all the fins are clean, if not then a soft brush can be used with the vacuum cleaner to remove the rest of the dust.

2. There is a small temperature sensor either just behind the condenser or sometimes pushed in between the fins, this may have dust on it or it may be faulty. If it's faulty and you are competent with electrics it is fairly easy to change.

3. Is there a fan at the back of the condenser, and if so does it work. Again if it is not working its easy to change if you are competent.

However if you are not happy with electrics then you will need your local reputable service guy

Terrible foul ordor coming from air conditioner

Two things may be causing this. A dirty air intake filter and/or the drip pan is not draining as it should.

Remove the front air intake filter and clean it, if necessary.

While the front is Off and the filter is removed, look at the drip pan under the mechanicals. If you see water standing, the unit is not draining as it should. This can be the result of the drain hole near the rear of the drain pan being clogged and/of not enough downward tilt on the rear of the unit. The general rule of thumb is 1/4" to 1/2" of downward tilt. Finding the drain hole can be a challenge, as the clog can blend in with the drain hole. Be patient and persistent in locating it. A pipe cleaner works well to clear the hole.

If none of the above applies, look for dark stains in the drip pan. These stains could be mold. In which case, add a couple of drops of bleach to the water in the drain pan. It may smell like bleach for a while, until the water dilutes it and drains it and the mold away.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

the drip pan is usually on top of the compressor or has a draw underneath with a coil to create heat for evaporation of water from the drip pan. Some time a rodent can drown in this location.

How to get a smell out of a hotpoint fridge.we try bread soda.what else can we use

You may have had something drip and somehow get under the fridge. I know blood dripping from meat will smell. It could have dripped down through the defrost drain tube to the pan underneath. You can access the pan from the rear by removing the cardboard cover. If the smell seems to be coming from the pan, it's difficult to remove so I would just pour some bleach in it to kill any smell and you may can wipe it out from there. The drain tube may also have the smell in it so you can pour some bleach into it from the inside of the freezer at the bottom of the rear panel. You can move the fridge to see if anything is pooled on the floor that might smell.

The drain pan may be accessible from the back. An equal portion of bleach and water should kill the smell. Make you wear gloves and use a fan to ventilate the area before and after using the bleach solution.

Foul odor from back area of fridge/Kenmore bottom freezer

I had the same problem, but just fixed it. I have a maytag bottom freezer and when the fan blower comes on, there was a foul/stale smell that permeated the kitchen. There is no drip pan that I could remove to clean.

I just removed four screws from the back cover of the fan blower area, reached in with a small cup of organic odor remover and poured it into the drip pan just under the fan blower.

Any odor remover would work. probably vinegar or enzyme odor remover would work, too.

I now have fresh smell when the fan blower comes on.

Bad odor coming from drip pan when compressor kicks own[when dry]

I just had the same problem with my kenmore side by side. I have been noticing a nasty smell for the last couple weeks when the fan comes on. My husband just took the whole back of the refrigerator apart and put a flashlight in there. We could see the drip-pan and it was filled with stinky black mold!! It was very hard to remove, but he managed to get it out by taking the lower front (where the filter goes) apart and then he was able to slide out the drip pan and clean it out! Problem solved.....but Kenmore should really make the drip pan more accessable!

Foul odor

Yes ,there is a condensate drain pan in the compressor compartment under your unit.
You should be able to get to it from the rear of the unit, by remove several screws.

Use caution and unplug unit before attempting any repair.
The pan can be cleaned out with warm soapy water.
