Question about HP LaserJet 5000 Printer

1 Answer

Is the HP laserjet 5000 a good screen printer? I have some one asking about the machine and they want to see out puts with the page being a solid color. They specifically ask about this model. The only problem when you hold the output at a angle you see some lighter spots/lines where it is not as dark as everything else. It looks kinda like the machine was never designed for this kind of printing and also the issue looks like it might be casued by the paper running through the fuser and unevenly melting the toner, but I also set it up a strait pass through print and I got the same thing. Basically us the HP laserjet 5000 a good screen printer? and if you understand what I am talking about with the print quality is that a fixable problem?

Hi,
I understand the question. You may have already have a solution. Anyhow, this model does not move fast enough not to make the fuser immpression. i would go with an older 8100 laserjet using a good aftermarket graphic toner cartridge. The 8100 or 8150 have hard rolles not the soft teflon film like the 5000 has, plus the move faster.

I hope this helps.

I have a HP laserjet 5000 that is printing light. I've replaced the toner/fuser. I tried cleaning the laser scanner but that didn't help. I was told that the printers laser was possibly failing and that it...

Let's try going to the control panel and go to PRINT QUALITY/ECONOMODE=ON.
TONER DENSITY=5.

Now run some pages through.
If pages are good change the density to 4 and try again. If that didn't help, then you could be looking at "transfer roller","engine control board", "laser scanner", "high voltage supply".

Only first page prints out with HP LaserJet 4 plus

i would say reinstall the driver, wouldnt be a schoolboys trick even sometimes the schoolboys know more than the teachers when it comes to technology.

Try the machines with a seporate machine thats a freash install and see it does the same thing, this a driver issue, and sometimes the students can hack into the machine and asking the printer to just print just one page of the document, you can select pages in a print box in word / Internet explorer for example.

And you can ask the printer to print two pages onto one page.

NO RESPONSE, PRINTER DISPLAY BLANK

sounds like you have a bad formatter....there is a way to circumvent the formatter and print whats called an engine test. this is used just to test the mechanics of the machine and leave the brain out of the equation...

Engine Test Button Location HP laserjet printer 5000 series

The engine test verifies that the print engine is functioning correctly.
The Formatter PCA is completely bypassed during an engine test.
This test is very useful for isolating printer problems. The engine test
prints a full page of lines across the entire printable area, and is also
useful for checking and adjusting registration.
hp-laserjet5000gn.jpg

laserjet-5000-engine-test.jpg Note Engine test will print from the last input tray used.
If the last input tray is empty or if the last input source was the duplexer,
then the Engine Test will print from Tray 2 (standard 250 CST).
If Tray 2 is empty (and the last input tray is empty or the last input source
was the duplexer), then the Engine Test will not function.

Printing an Engine Test HP laserjet printers 5000 series
To print an engine test, use a non-metallic object (such as a pencil) to
press the engine test button. A single test page with horizontal lines
will be printed. To print multiple test pages, hold down the engine test
button.

If the engine test prints ok then you have a formatter issue...if you have added memory or a network card try taking them out one at a time to see if the problem goes away. Otherwise the formatter will have to be replaced.
