im holding an oreck motor as i write this and to the right of where the plastic casing that holds the brush there is a small round plastic piece sticking up, around that should be a metal coil which slips over the plastic piece the theres a piece of the metal wire on one end is the coil the other end is like a hook which hooks into the plastic housing piece causing a sort of resistance, like a spring action. good luck
Richard,
That motor is still available and the part # you need is
09-72158-01. It normally retails for $59.99. Not sure where you live, but you should be able to find an Oreck dealer somewhere close that maybe can get it for you. Hope this helps!
This could be for various reasons. Check the power cord and try a different outlet first. See if the power cord is loose or damaged. Next check the brushroll and belt that those are in working order. If you smelt burning or electrical fire or your vacuum made an odd noise before stopping it may be the motor going bad. If your power cord is good and the brushroll and belt good, it is probably your motor going bad.

Either have to take the bottom plate off, or there is a small door with one screw to remove to replace the belt. Then it goes around the motor shaft and then over the pulley on the brush roll.
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG THEIR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The motor has 5 wires to the motor as stated in the Oreck owners manual, tow are for the headlights, one is a ground wire, and the other two are for the motor. There are two screws that hold in the Oreck motor and a good suggestion is to use tape the wires leads and mark the wires so that you will not make a mistake as you take it apart and reassemble the motor. That way you will not make any mistakes, whether or not you have wires for a headlight or not, the rules are the same. Also refer to the owner’s manual schematic and the exploded view.
