Remove the freezer panel and
make sure your fan blower is working if not replace it.
locate the defrost heating element and check it whit a multimeter
on the ohms position if no continuity replace it if is good find the defrost thermostat
is a round sensor whit two wires sticking out it you be open at room temperature but if is frozen shut
be close NOTE : a easy way to test it is buying a can of duster gas on your local office supply store
flip it up side down and flow the liquid directly in to the defrost thermostat that will freeze in a couple seconds on till make a click sound and you be able to test continuity whit your tester.
if no continuity after it click replace it.
if those components are good
take your thermostat case out and look for the defrost Timer. and replace it
if is a mechanical one
it will have a round knob on the side and four wires sticking out have like a box or a electronic board
NOTE: some times you can find a page nest to the thermostat or at the lower kick cover or even behind
the back panel. comes whit electrical diagram and component locations.
if you have any further questions. just add on your question i bee checking it later.

By the sound of it you need to check the thermostat..unfortunately they are quite hard to test and I would suggest to test one before buying, either by getting an exact same model to test..I would suggest ebay for the parts as they might cost nothing compared to normal shops..Hope this help and save you money..

I'm Leo
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

The refrigerator stays at 47 degrees but the bottom compartments freeze

You have a defrost problem. A blockage of frost in the freezer prevents air flow over the cooling coils there, allowing very cold air to migrate back into the bottom of the refrigerator section. Unload the freezer and remove the back wall, melt the frost off the coils with a hair blower, and check to see if the defrost heater at the bottom of the coils is burnt out. If heater is OK, replace the 1.5 inch long white thermistor located at the very top of the cooling coils.

I have a GE GSS20IEM side by side. It is not

The possibilitty is the 8 hour timer may be defective. This timerr is the one which cut off the compressor and powers the heater to defrost the coooling coils to condense the water to the try below. If this wont happen then the possibility of the cooling coils building up frost will decrease cooling. The thermostat can also be a culprit as the thermostat is also in circuit . You can see if the timer works in this cycle by shutting off the fridge for several hours and restarting to check the defrosting cycle.the timer is placed near to the compressor unit and the heater near the cooling coils. Hope you check this out. Good day .

I have a ge gsl22wgph and the refrigerator side is not is not getting cold enough and the freezer side is not freezing. What is the problem?

First look at back wall of freezer toward the bottom and see if you have frost build up on the wall. If you do the problem is most likely the defrost heater and you will need to remove back wall of freezer, melt the ice from the coils and then change the heater at the bottom of the evap. coils.

also perhaps the defrost timer is bad, not allowing the defrost heater to come on and melt the ice as it should? Or the defrost heater itself could be bad -

Left not transfering cold enough air to right side. doesn't get colder than 50 degrees, why?

Remove back panel of freezer (where you see the frost) and melt the frost with a hair blower. The frost blocked evaporator coils are not allowing air to pass over the cold coils, so no cold air is able to get to the fresh foods section. You will most likely need to replace the defrost heater at the bottom of the evap coils to prevent this from reoccurring in two weeks time.
