Question about Philips GoGear SA178 MP3 Player
I bought a Phillips GoGear 4GB three weeks ago and have downloaded about 500 songs onto it. Today I was syncing 40 songs from Windows Media Player and it stopped all of a sudden with 7 songs left. I tried to start the sync again and got an error, something to the affect of your device is operating slowly, cannot sync until the device responds, try disconnecting from com., try resetting, etc. I disconnected, then reset, still the same thing. It still has 1.6GB remaining, anyone know what I could do to fix this problem. Should I repair through the device manager and lose all files, or is there something else I should do. Any help greatly appreciated.
This is only a makeshift solution.
I use a philips gogear sa52xx and found out, that deleting the drivers, then reconnecting the Player and pressing F5 in the explorer allows me to normally access the philips gogear sa52xx for about 30 seconds. After that, out of nowhere the drivers will sever and the Code 10 error appears. So, another disconnect - deinstall of the driver - reconnect - F5 in the explorer until the Player appears and then sync. The proplem is, that this works best (maybe only) with mp3 files...
So convert your music files into mp3 first, than do above steps for drag 'n' drop.
Usually, you need to do the whole procedure 2 times for a CD, sometimes 3.

I also have a the 4gb phillips. it was always kinda hit or miss when i plugged it into the usb port on my computer but it would usually show up after a few tries. recently however, the device will not even show up on the device drivers menu when it is plugged into the computer. nonetheless, i am unable to sync the device to windows media player. i know the computer is picking it up though, as it appears in add hardware wizard's list of connected hardware. in that list, the device shows up with a yellow icon next to it. the device says it has failed due to a code 10 error. troubleshooter explains a senario somewhat like mine which would require downloading a vista software update. unfortunately, i am running XP and am unsure of the compatibility. so i guess my question is, what is a code 10 error; is it correctable; and if not, is the windows vista update compatable with the xp software?

Software can be found by going to:
Enter your model number
On the next page, click on your exact model number without the "B" on the end
On the next page, click on "software and drivers"
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.
1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new
Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
