Question about Maytag PAV2300 Top Load Washer
My 5 year old washer started making this high pitch noise during the spin cycle. The odd thing about the noise is that if I open the lid, the machine obviously stops and the noise stops immediately. When I close the lid again, the spin cycle continues and there is no noise. So I'm a bit puzzled and don't know where to start troubleshooting. Could it be as simple as a belt slipping? Or a break getting stuck? Is there a simple way to troubleshoot for either? Thanks in advance!
The first thing to do is to make sure there is nothing sticking through the holes in the basket that is rubbing the inside of the tub.(nails, screws, wires)
If this is ok, tilt the machine back so you can remove the belt and turn each pulley individually. Be sure to turn the transmission pulley both directions.(it is the big one) The most likely culprit is the water pump has something in it or the seal sleeve on the pump has fallen out of place and is rubbing the pulley.
Post back with what you find out and we will go further if we need to.
