Burn a backupDVD for a netbook using a network drive

How to burn a backup disk (DVD) for a netbook (Acer Aspire One) using a DVD drive on another computer at the network? The Aspire can already see the drive but don't reconize it as a recordable drive.

You will need to install the same burning software on the network computer that is installed on your netbook OR install some third party software like NERO, send the ISO file from the netbook to the network computer, then burn it to dvd.

Need to reset acer aspire 1200 desktop

The Aspire One is a netbook produced by Acer; it does not come equipped with a CD ROM drive, so a traditional hard drive reformat and Windows reinstallation is not possible without a peripheral storage device. An external USB CD or flash drive will suffice, however.Difficulty:Moderate

Instructions

    • 1 Plug in the external CD drive, then turn on your netbook and let it boot to your operating system.
    • 2 Open your web browser and go to the BootDisk website (see link in Resources). Download the Windows XP Fresh Install Bootable CD, then burn these files to a blank CD via your external CD drive.
    • 3 Ensure the files have burned to your bootable CD, then restart the netbook with the CD still in the drive.
    • 4 The netbook should boot to the CD upon the restart. Follow the instructions prompted for installation. Upon completion you will have a clean installation of Windows XP on your Acer Aspire One.

I want to reset it

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.

I need to obtain Acer erecovery software on CD/DVD

The eRecovery software should be installed on your computer and you can use it to burn the disks yourself.

Click Start, Programs, Acer Empowering Technology, Acer eRecovery Management.
The management windows will open.
At the bottom click on Burn Disk
Click Create Factory Default Disc - good idea to have this because it put the machine back to new state - warning, you will wipe out any existing data from the hard drive if you boot of this disk.
You can also burn a driver and application backup disk and a current system configuration backup

If you click on Backup on the bottom you have the choice of doing a full system backup, this is probably what will work best for you but I do recommend having a set of factory default available.

Cd/dvd drive problem

Try with another brand of disk; the Matsushita UJ870 drive of our 5315 burn my Sony CD's but not my Philips CD's (my Compaq V2617LA with an older Matsushita UJ840 drive has burned Phillips CD's in the last two monts)... Remember: CD and DVD lassers are different. I think because of that, i haven't see problems with Sony, Philips and Samsung DVD's... only with CD's...

HI have a ACER HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-T10N ATA DVD DRIVE AND THE DVD DRIVE OLNY LOAS SOME PROGRAMS ON DVD DISK AND NOT OTHERS AND ALSO WILL NOT WRITE TO THE DVD OR CD DISK

the cd-dvd drives will only work if you have a good non-microsoft burning program. Your computer came with such programs--one or two. find out by installing a freeware program called Belarc advisor. It will show you all hardware and software with ids and version numbers. You didn't mention if your computer was an Acer. If it is, you have a copy of all the software saved on the hard drive. or did you purchase the DVD drive separately? if Acer, you can find and reinstall your original program using Acer eRecovery Management. (You can read about your Acer by clicking on "All Programs" and then on "AcerSystem", where you will find your manual, where you will find the following info: The eRecovery allows you to backup/restore the factory default image, and reinstall any applications and drivers. (In this instance you want to reinstall your CD-DVD burning programs). You just need to select the Burn Disc button, then select the application you want to burn to the disc--in this case, you CD-DVD buring program you identified with Belarc, burn it, then reinstall it. (You might want to burn all the applications the computer came with, just to have them for backup). That should get you going again. Let me know if you run into any problems.
