Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Service Pack for PC
My computer is going nuts and several things are going wrong. My issue at the moment is that when I open up Skype, the window with my contacts is appearing somewhere off-screen. I have an extended desktop with two monitors, and for some reason the desktop space is not being limited to the boundaries of my monitors. I can still take a window and move it half in, half off of the screen (or all off, as is the problem with Skype currently).
As for Skype, I have the icon in my taskbar and can receive incoming messages. But I cannot initiate any conversations because I cannot reach my contact menu.
I believe that the cause is related to the fact that when I right click on the desktop and select Properties, I no longer have any tabs but the Themes one. No wallpaper, no screensaver, no monitor settings.
If anyone can solve the tabs problem, they're a freaking genius. I'll be perfectly content if someone can just tell me how to get my Skype window onto my visible monitor space.
PC- Lenovo T61
OS- Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3
Try this to solve the tab problem. It involves editing the registry. I would recommend reading this MS article on how to backup/recover your registry before following the steps below. It can be found HERE.
Once a backup is created, open up the registry by clicking on the Start Button, then choosing "Run..." from the start menu. This will open a little dialog box, in that box type "regedit" and click OK.
This will open the registry, you will want to navigate to the following key:
You should then see something like this: *Note this is my registry, and the keys might not be the same, take note of the path at the bottom of the window and that it matches what i posted above"
In that folder, you should see something like 'NoDispAppearancePage' in the right hand window with a value of (1). Double click on the value and change the Value Data to 0. Try this until all the tabs come back, if they do not work, change them back to their original values.
Hope this helps.
