Are you sure its a bad crt? Because when i first changed the flyback the picture was fine. then when i gave it back to the customer they came back and said it still had the same problem? when i tested it it was a blue screen then shut down... but when it first came it in just wouldnt turn on? Maybe the crt driver board?

This problem is caused due to inbalance of three colors viz red , blue, green. This is the problem can be solved by changing Picture tube

Black screen, sound ok.flyback lines when G2 turned up

Never tune G2 voltage too up to a state, to appear retrace lines on screen. it is bad. It might make the CRT damaged. Check the video output card, and the voltages comes to it. This card can be located at the neck of the picture tube itself, will directly plugged to its back of the neck. Reduce the G2 voltage, in such a way that, there is no retrace lines appear. Set comes on with a blue screen with retrace lines, then shuts down. Turned down screen control on flyback, set stays on cannot control brill

The set is shutting down because the picture tube is been over driven, it is most likely the picture tube has a short in the blue gun, turning down the screen control drops the voltage to a safer level. The only other possibility is a short video driver and open feed resistor usually located on the video board on the back of the picture tube.

Have 46 samsung dlp that has green lines all over the screen . menu still works but doesnt go away on the menu mode. the green is so thick that you cant see any picture in the background.

Red, green, or blue retrace lines ( a quote from "Notes on the Troubleshooting and Repair of Television Sets", found at http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvrgbrlin )

Where only one color is showing, suspect an incorrectly adjusted individual background/bias control or bad part on the CRT neck board for that color.
  • Individual brightness/background/bias control(s) - mark setting of pot for the problem color and then see if a slight adjustment removes the retrace lines. See the chapter: "TV Adjustments". Of course, if this happened suddenly, the problem is not due to a misadjusted control though a dirty pot is possible - turn it back and forth - this might clean it and restore normal operation.
  • Component or connection on CRT neck board - insufficient voltage to or incorrect biasing of the video driver for this color can result in the CRT never totally blanking. Compare voltages and signals, and swap components between good and bad channels to confirm.
  • Blanking circuit - this may be a part of the video/chroma chip or separate. Check and compare waveforms of good and bad colors to determine if the blanking pulses are making it to the video output.
There is a slight possibility that a bad CRT may result in visible retrace lines. To eliminate this possibility:
  • Disconnect the filament - all evidence of a picture, raster, and retrace lines should disappear once the filaments/cathodes have cooled (15 seconds or so. If there are still visible retrace lines, the CRT is suffering from cold or field emission from someplace (may not even be the cathode).
  • Turn down the screen (G2) control on the flyback (usually). If one color remains no matter how you set the control, again there is some kind of weird emission from the CRT. However, if white/gray retrace lines remain, the problem may be in the screen supply.
(quote ends)

You will be greatly helped if you have a schematic for your TV set, and you may need to change some parts, clean some connector contacts and/or tweak settings inside the set, so remember the original settings before you tweak them...

Good luck

Try turning your screen down on your flyback. Adjust until no retrace lines

No picture

you may have turned down the screen control
It is the lower one on the flyback transformer
Just advance it enough to get the pix back. If you advance it too much it may get retrace lines in the pix or shut down.
turn very slowly.
Thanks Guy

Panasonic TV has blank screen with retrace line

retrace lines usually means screen voltage is to high . that could mean bad picture tube.or flyback.

But there is something you could try. Be careful high voltage.on the back on the flyback transformer there to adjustments screen voltage and and focus go slightly counter clockwise or in your case clockwise that pot addustment will make it darker or lighter. If this does not fix it you have a flyback oy tue problem.
I hope this helps thanks doctor video leadingedgeelectronics 1987

CHECK VALUE OF RESISTORS IN CRT BOARD,,,,AND THE 3 TRANSISTORS COLOR DRIVERS ....THATS AUTO SHUT DOWN FOR OVER VOLTAGE....DO YOU SEE RETRACE LINES BEFORE SHUTDOWN?IF YES TRY TO LOWER DOWN SCREEN FIRST ON THE FLYBACK TO SEE IF ITS GOING TO SHUTDOWN.....

21PT3324/71 Philips TV wont stay on

Try this: On the flyback transformer, raise the SCREEN voltage. There are 2 controld on the flyback - the top one is FOCUS and the bottom one is SCREEN. As the tube ages its emission decreases, and the computer monitors the tube's emission. When the emission gets to be too low, the computer shuts the set down. This is exactly like IK blanking in Sony sets, except Sony blanks the video and Philips shuts the set off. To set the screen voltage properly, turn the brightness and contrast to 0, raise the screen voltage until you see the white retrace lines in the picture, and then back down on the screen voltage until just past the point where the retrace lines are gone. Reset your brightness and contrast and the set should play fine.

Horizontal 'pinstripe' lines on all channels

sound like the screen control on the flyback is set just a little too high. the flyback has the red wire attached to the tube. the flyback has 2 small adjustable controls. if you look close enough 1 is marked focus & on is screen. turn the screen slightly to the left & look at your picture. the screen is like a master brightness & if it's up too high you will see what is called retrace lines. good luck.
