I assume the switch is separate from the motor. In either case a new swich could be added. A replacement switch can be purchased at any hardware or home improvement store (ACE, True Value, Lowes, Home Depot). The black wire from the plug goes to one terminal of the switch, another black wire goes from the switch 2nd terminal to the motor.

My blind son overloaded the washer and it will not spin after I removed the clothes. The washer makes a noise like the motor is working but not connecting. how do I fix it?

The washer may have a broken drive coupling. This is a plastic coupling with a rubber insert mounted between the motor and transmission. If the coupling breaks, the motor will operate and make noise but the basket will not turn. You must access the motor to make this repair. The part is inexpensive but labor more costly. I've seen this many times while I was working on Kenmore washers. It is a lot better than broken transmission, and worthwhile repair. Overloading and wear and tear over time will cause these to fail.

Electric motor overload protection device

It is easier to repair namebrand equipment than off the wall ones. I would open up the motor and take the numbers off the existing overload, get the equipment model, serial number, and then I can shop for replacement parts.
There are alternatives to OL protection.

We have a 100 ton press electric motor an a hydraulic pump. You have to hold in on the reset to make motor run.

The overload switch may have failed. Does the motor stop if you let go of the reset? If the motor (single phase) has a capacitor start, the capacitor may have failed partially which will cause overload because the motor just sits and hums without turning. If this is a three-phase motor, the overload button should shut off the motor starter which directly removes power to the motor. Don't jury-rig a switch to bypass the problem. Hope this helps!

Lift motor overload

" Turn the power switch off, wait 1 minute and turn the power switch on again. If treadmill recovers to normal operation, you may continue to use the treadmill.
The lower board software contains a protective current measurement, should the limit exceed, it will give the ’lift motor overload’ -error. Try calibrating the lift motor and if not successful. Unplug unit remove motor shroud locate the lift motor. The lift motor driven nut is never supposed to reach either of the ends of the lift motor screw. Should this happen, the nut is likely to get jammed. Check that the nut is not against the motor frame nor against the stopper in the end of the motor screw. In a case like this the lift motor needs to be removed and the nut released by hand.

Washer will agitate, but not spin

there is a coupling that is behind the motor that brakes if the washer is overloaded, part number 285753A,it' around 25 bucks,it's a pretty easy job,two clips hold the pump on,remove them and pull off the pump, take out the two screws holding the motor clips on and remove them, pull off the motor and you'll see the coupling
