Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

Need to change the MTU for my router

I have a NETGEAR DG834GT. My Xbox is telling me I need to change the MTU setting above 1364. I've gone to 192.168.0.1 but it tells me I need an ID and a password.

Does anyone have any ideas where I may find these and/or what they might be. They'll be unaltered as no-one has ever changed them.

Thanks for any help.

To change your MTU settings download a program called DrTCP (google for it) then change the MTU size of your Internet connection, try 1465 and keep dropping it until you get a figure that works...

You can also check out xbox support site for more information on MTU settings here

When i hook my xbox up to my router it tells me that the mtu must be in auto or the setting must be 1364 or higher where do i do this

To check the MTU settings on the router , you will need to access the router set up page. Do you have any computer connected to the router and which is able to go online ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router and check the IP address on the computer.
Open the set up page of the router and check the settings of the router.

How can I change my mtu on my wireless router to be able to play xbox?

Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. Usually, you can change your MTU setting from your router configuration web page, which is supplied by your router manufacturer.
Learn how to find and use your router configuration page
Look for the MTU setting on the router configuration page. When you find it, set it to Auto or 1364 (or higher), save your settings, and then try to connect to Xbox LIVE again on your console.

Connection interruption while playing xbox live

Xbox LIVE recommends using an MTU value of 1364(defaults are 1492 and 1500) on your router.

You will need to log onto your Router, go to the setup section, locate the MTU, set it to Manual, and change the Size to 1364.

If that doesn't work, you will need to clarify the following:
  1. How many machines(do you have other computers?)
  2. What router are you using
  3. Ethernet or Wireless?
