Blank DVDs turn my DVD Burner into a CD Drive

I have been using my Pioneer DVD burner for a while now, everything is up to date it isn't software my dvds haven't changed I still half way through the same pack of DVDs now every time I put a blank DVD into the drive it turns my drive into a CD Driver.

Also Nero doesn't acknowledge the drive anymore it does detect when I put a blank DVD in and start Nero Smart Start but it won't let me burn the DVD and also says that a blank DVD is a CD... but when I go into the full Nero Burning Rom it comes up with the bloody imager, and no CD/DVD drives, have tries re-loading drivers and firmware and everything it doesn't work.

Could this be a virus.

Not knowing what OS you're running or what version of Nero you have, I'll make a few assumptions. If you're running Vista with Nero 7, Nero doesn't always "play nice" with Vista. It's a memory hog (all video editing programs are) but it tends to hang up a lot and for some reason, runs worse in Vista than in XP. (just my observation)

I've had to re-install Nero twice due to similar problems. (lack of drive recognition, burns ab-ending etc) . You've probably already uninstalled/reinstalled the burner so I would uninstall Nero and reinstall it. Best of luck and please post back with any questions.

I tested that one the problem is not on the software side but in the hardware part. try to ship it back to the supplier or purchase new dvd device.

Is there anyway to make my dvd burner recognize and utilize the blank Memorex dvds i got for xmas?

Assuming that everything has been working properly so far, try updating the firmware on your DVD burner to see if that resolves the problem. If that doesn't work, your software may be out of date, see if there is an update or get a newer version for it.

My dvd drive in my computer won't play dvds

1. Completely remove any dvd/cd player/burner softwares (i.e. Nero, Power DVD, etc.).
2. Go to device manager and remove your DVD/CD device from the device list
3. Restart you laptop
4. Windows will then try to reinstall the device drivers again for the DVD drive.
5. After another restart, then reinstall your dvd softwares again.

New DVD burner won't read blank DVD-r's.

Make sure your burner software supports your burner. Older software doesn't read and write the newer burners properly.

My dvd burneer wont reconise dvd discs

This is correct, as there is no TOC on a blank disk there is nothing to read. it is your writing software that identifies blank media when inserted, so you may wish to check your software is appropriate for your requirements Cheers :D
